I'm suspicious of any dealer who says that they simply received a 'Lightning out of the blue' for stock... with over 200,000 CUSTOMER reservation still outstanding, I highly doubt that Ford has decided to skip all those future orders to simply provide a dealership a Lightning they don't have a customer order for... that makes no sense.
I suspect that these are customer-ordered CANCELLED purchases. The dealer may not want to admit it, as it surely sounds better to a potential 'off the street' customer who might be oblivious to the last 17 months of the rest of us 'waiting' in line for one.

I'm calling BUNK on this one. If the window sticker is the same color as anyone who ordered one, then it's a customer-ordered vehicle, NOT a demo or simply 'dealer stock'.
I know it seems odd that dealers are getting SR Lariats when there are unfulfilled orders. I already took delivery of my Pro when my dealer called and said a SR Lariat showed up unexpectedly. Sticker was blue, and they were selling at msrp. Was sold in about two hours from arrival.

These SR Lariats are apparently like the Big Bend Broncos.

Super easy to tell. The dealer stock units are blue, the customer orders are green and say "SPECIAL ORDER" at the bottom.

Extremely shitty of Ford to have shipped any dealer stock while many of us were still waiting with reservations. But here we are.

Supposedly dealers were supposed to call their reservation holders and offer them a chance to order Lariat SRs and they only got the stock unit if everybody said now. But it seems like many dealers - including the one I reserved at - just didn't bother making the calls assuming they'd get a truck they could mark up. Now they've got a less desirable trim truck sitting on their lot and they aren't selling for big markups. Also, sucks that Ford stuck to allocations rather than telling dealers they could only have 'em if they closed a sale with a reservation holder.

Here's one:
https://www.windowsticker.forddirect.com/windowsticker.pdf?vin=1FTVW1EL7NWG00547
https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/inven...ventoryListing.action?#listing=342034286/NONE

Blue sticker. Could be had tomorrow for MSRP (though they will try to get you to pay markup first).
And, these are units that were shipped by Ford to dealers as stock units. My local dealer said that they were not given the opportunity to spec the trucks - much like the demos that they received. My dealer believes that these trucks were intended as factory rep vehicles, but that changed when Ford reorganized their personnel.

If true, then it would make sense as to why stock units are showing up at dealerships.

It has been explained to me that ford allocated parts to certain trims and configurations prior to scheduling in an attempt to minimize chip shortage/ supply chain issues .. Once wave 6 was finished , it became clear that they had all of the parts to build just lariat Srs as the clean up wave “ before model year 2023 .. these were originally going to special orders but dealers had the option to take them as retail stock of preferred.

Difficult to believe that story though, when you see ones like the one I linked above with a VIN of 547. I think they are allocating them in order.

At the end of a model year, there may be less popular commodities and there is a chance production could get cut. Ford may build some stock units to finish the run and not commit to a customer a truck to have it get cut later. I’m sure you can check window sticker colors.

Oooo someone else from the northwest Chicago area. I had ordered mine but I'm still waiting on mine to get delivered to the dealer hopefully soon. I know our dealer up here has a lariat er as a demo but everywhere else wanted 30k over sticker for their new and used stuff...

I can update when I actually buy it if they jack my price up

Metro Ford in upstate NY confirmed they have gotten stock units in Lariat SR trim. NOT demos, NOT cancelled orders..bonafide stock units with a blue sticker.

Ford has sent some stock units out to mostly ZEV states....

It truly is happening. Ford did the same with the Bronco. Nearly the same number of reservations and then they said they couldn't just build customer orders, but needed to build dealer stock too. And they did.

So far dealer stock of Lightnings is really scarce, but is happening. As for being sent one out of the blue, no, that doesn't happen. If a salesperson tells you they just received the truck out of the blue, then either that salesperson didn't get the memo or they're trying to make it sound like they won the lottery or something and can justify charging extra $$$. Dealerships know what inventory is coming in. In many cases the sales manager(s) have some say in configurations. Ford's regional people will often do the configuration and assignments as to which vehicles get built and where they go. Looks like all the dealer stock that is not a demo/ mannequin have the SR battery. Probably because those packs are cheaper and more plentiful. Lariat trim is also the most plentiful.

I suspect that these are customer-ordered CANCELLED purchases. The dealer may not want to admit it, as it surely sounds better to a potential 'off the street' customer who might be oblivious to the last 17 months of the rest of us 'waiting' in line for one.
Checking the VIN / window sticker will tell you. If it's a green sticker, then it's a customer order. If they're selling that, then the order was abandoned by that customer. If it's a blue sticker, then it's intended for dealer stock inventory. Demo/ mannequin units have nothing on the window sticker to indicate that's what they are. They're a blue sticker and are tracked internally by Ford. A dealership can sell a mannequin early if they replace it with a like vehicle from stock inventory. Difficult to do with the Lightning.

I'm calling BUNK on this one. If the window sticker is the same color as anyone who ordered one, then it's a customer-ordered vehicle, NOT a demo or simply 'dealer stock'.
This XLT is a blue sticker / dealer stock inventory. Seeing how it it's a June invoice date, I'm 99% sure it's a mannequin. Also the only explanation as to why it would still be at the dealership. They're probably willing to work up a deal now and take a deposit, but a customer can't drive it off the lot as the owner for another 6 weeks.

I got my Lariat SR off the lot for MSRP. It was a customer cancellation. I still have my reservation, and will probably order a Lariat ER when I can.

Yeah, I seem to be finding a handful of the Standard Range Lariats out there. Unfortunately, I am not finding any of the Extended Range, except as mannequins. I did just get in touch with a dealer who has their mannequin Lariat with ER battery coming up for sale in December. I am guessing that I would not be able to claim the Federal Tax Credit for that though, but if anyone knows the answer on that for sure, let me know.

I have an MSRP Lariat I'm looking at since I'm losing hope that my truck will ever leave the rail yard, it's just missing the onboard scales. If my delivery window gets bumped again this week, I'll probably go pick it up. If my truck actually comes in, I'll post the dealer's name/location. I called about 35 dealers last week, most Lightnings that are showing up on dealer websites and other buying sites are the mannequins. Some are coming up on their 6 month requirement mid-December though, so floodgates are about to open!

My dealership (Red McCombs in SATX) had a retail blue window sticker come in. I think you will find that these are all Lariat SR that no one seems to want to custom order.

Long story, but I'll pick up an off the lot Lightning on Thursday with a blue stock sticker. Same specs as everyone is seeing, Lariat SR, BlueCruise, rubber mats and spray in liner. A-plan price, no markup.

Nice! I'm scouring the west coast for one but everyone is still throwing on 20-30k markups...
