You’re so knowledgeable about the Lightning that you should create the flowchart so the rest of us don’t have to do research to understand what “charge limit” means.
I think the point is that in order to flowchart a process, it has to be consistently repeatable.
I could make on that shows how my Mach-E behaves, but reading all of these quirks about Lightning charging makes my head spin. It’s going be maddening if my Lightning doesn’t follow the same logic as my car (if I ever get it).

Same here. 18 months of Mach E, and I try and avoid public charging as much as possible still. At home, plug in, go to sleep, wake up, drive.....

Will have to do more public charging with the Lightning as we commute from NJ to VT most of the winter, 200 miles door to door, but lots of it in 25 degree weather. Hope the ER will make it, but have already scoped out as many (at least) 50 amp and up chargers on or near our route.

Mach E won't make it in the winter.... range drops to 180-190
200/91 = 2.2 miles per kilowatt hour, right in the edge.
200/131 = 1.5 miles per kilowatt hour truck has to get to be right on the edge.

In general, the truck and the Mach-E have the same range. Just takes the truck 44% more energy to get there.

I would not expect the truck to beat 1.5 by more than a tenth.

Wow by the minute?

I would definitely stop at 80% because charging slows down past 80%.

We get charged per kWh - no matter how long it takes.

And yes, it's sunny, warm and toasty in the sun today (getting suntan for my daily Vitamin D). 😉
The by the minute rate works out to about 1/2 the cost. You are the one getting hosed... 😃

I will know soon. First winter road trip with the Lightning planned for the first week in January. About 180 miles to my first planned charging stop. ABRP plans it at about 1.75 mi/ kWh (some non-highway driving). We will see how that pans out.

I've done 210 miles below freezing twice now. Precondition and keep it under 80 and you'll be fine. Skip either of those things and you'll have to stop to charge.

Thanks... prudent advice for sure. Just have to figure out how to survive on the NY State Thruway below 80 MPH LOL

A couple months ago I charged just south of glens falls. Shell recharge network 350kw charger. Topped out at 174kw. It was at the Stewart's Shop on Saratoga Rd (rt 9). I think there is a slower DCFC at the rest area a little bit farther north. Normally when headed to VT we get off on exit 20. This DCFC would be exit 17. The rest area is between 17 and 18.

I don’t know how long, time wise, but it was up ti 87% by the time i got back to the truck.
I'm jealous... I'm charging at home using 120v because SunRun didn't do anything, apparently, for the last two months since I requested an installation of a charger.

You are a daring man! I would never cruise at that speed on the NYS Thruway - quick way to get a ticket!

Sounds like you're much farther north than we are... we usually go through Albany from the lower thruway. We never get as far north as Glens Falls. There are a bunch of 50 Amp chargers on the lower thruway, so we can get a few miles here or there added to range. But they're terribly maintained and often broken. The Capital Welcome Center charger has been broken for months. There are a couple of newer fast chargers coming online near where we travel. There's a DCFC at Walmart on the western side of Albany we've used, sort of near the airport . A bit out of the way, but fine and it usually works at least.

Funny! I feel like the traffic moves so fast sometimes, we need to drive that fast just to survive! There are times when the state police are out in force, and heck, even they don't want to mess with the crazed skiers going north!!

Good luck. I'd rather stop and charge for 15 minutes than drive the thruway slow. Even if it makes the overall trip time longer. :)
