I tow a 10k dump trailer regularly with loads from 4000-10000lbs and it's the best tow vehicle I've ever owned.

Here's a pic of this morning's adventure. 24 bales of straw (2-string) for our strawberry patch in my 6x12 dump trailer.

Pulls like there's nothing back there at all, and I live uphill from where I pick up loads. This load is on the light end of things at 3k more or less for the empty trailer and probably 1200 lbs of straw but even with 2 yards of gravel for my driveway or large rocks for the water feature I'm building, the Lightning makes towing a breeze IMO. Dump runs are as straightforward as grocery runs and I've yet to come anywhere close to range anxiety.

15k miles and hope I have it forever.

Cheers

PS- New front window tints and roof rack added to the SmartCap since my last post as well :)

PPS- If anyone near PDX needs straw, I've got a guy on Sauvie Island, PM me for info.

One of the issues I’ve found with towing with the Lightning is that it really doesn’t act like there’s something behind it. I call that an “issue” because when I’m towing with the Lightning, I tend to forget I’m towing and I let my speed creep up faster than it should. It’s too good.

Do you have a lift on the front? My hesitation with doing that is my worry that it would sit with the rear lower than the front when carrying a load. But yours still looks pretty level with the tongue weight of a loaded trailer.

I have done no suspension work to my trucks, as I like the factory geometry and handling for my curvy road home, and a lift would slow me down in the corners. The truck comes 'raked' from the factory, meaning the rear is higher than the front, to accomodate any payload so it levels it out to have a load in the bed, or a load on the tongue. Really and truly tows well beyond any 1500 class truck I have owned and reminiscent of my 2020 3500 Cummins in pulling capacity.

Perfect - I am also factory suspension and now I feel better about leaving it that way!

I know that bridge. Looking forward to bringing the kids out to the island for berry picking in a few months.

sw engineering manager,
The Independent rear suspension and the truck itself being heavier makes it tow and haul things in a very well behaved manner, suspension wise. The suspension and frame are much more capable than the weight rating which seems to be mostly limited by the wheels and tires.

Too bad they do not make a version with stiffer springs plus higher-rated 8-lug hubs, wheels, and tires for an added 1200 lbs of payload.

I tow a Bobcat with attachments like 4 in one bucket and hydraulic flail mower or Harley Rake. Runs 9000 for bare bobcat and trailer. Attachments can be additional 3 to 4000 lbs.

Absolutely best tow vehicle we have on the farm. 3 years old 80,000 km. Only been in to change tires.

Granted most of my towing is not long distance 200 kms. Or less. It SR with max tow. Biggest problem is keeping speed down. Feels more capable than our diesel 3/4 tons. It’s first out of the barn when there’s work to be done. Traction is the best, moving heavy loads the ice trucks low range shift gears and lose traction, lightning keeps wheels planted and just easies away. Why else cost of operation, and it does what we ask.

i know they don’t fit everybody but it works for us, will be buying another but will go long range.

By the way we also tow a 14 ft dump. Over the suggested limit 6 to 8 metric tons on the trailer before I feel it back there.

It's certainly capable of loads beyond its rating (here it is pulling a million pound train, after all: ), but I wouldn't put that in writing for the sake of your warranty ;)

Try that with a cyber truck, it is repairable though, start at the end of the chain and replace everything with a Lightning!

I thought that bridge looked familiar, what kind of range hit are you seeing while towing with the temps in PDX? I need to tow a CR-V to Idaho and am wondering how much warmer I should let it get before I go so I'm not dealing with both the temperature and towing range hit.
