What changed, is the restriction on moving orders. This is not a patience issue. I’ve waited 6-months and will most likely wait more than a year.
Moving reservations or moving orders? My understanding as recently as yesterday from a nearby dealer was that I could move my reservation and keep my place in line. The only issue would be that I could not do so after my reservation was converted to an order.

I can…Ashlie Ryan, Tom Borah, Steven Wepryk, and Courtney Kaczor from Chapman Ford.

That said, I finally managed to transfer my reservation to a MSRP dealer with no ADM (Bob Davidson Ford in Parkville, MD).
Aww damnit...I really wanted this thread to go on and on..... <rolls eyes>

So Ashlie, Tom, and Steven were either WRONG or it only applied to their dealer.(Not buying it) Most likely they didn't want your business for some reason...

I am glad you got what you wanted <no joke>. I don't think anyone should pay ADM.......

I have no reason to NOT believe that he was told that by someone, regardless of its accuracy. But I bet it IS a huge problem for Ford and some dealerships if the unforseen result of the consumers sharing knowledge (this forum for example) and many thousands of reservations are transferred to a handful of dealerships.

It's kinda cool to witness things like that to me. It's a very different world than the uninformed one I grew up in.

Imagine the transport trucks with the first 1000 F150 Lightnings leaving the shipment yard, but instead of breaking off and moving in every direction across America, they are instead a Caravan on the interstate all heading to the same dealership!

Have you been participating in this forum? There is a whole thread on the allocation issue. Initially the main warning was people could lose their place in line (not get 2022 models), now it appears some dealers are being instructed to refuse transfers. Yes, I have this in writing.
Is it dealers who were advertising below MSRP in violation of Ford’s apparent rules? It could be that prohibiting transfers of reservations to those dealers is the issue not that all transfers are prohibited.

Best way to find out is to get something in writing one way or the other from Ford Motor Company - if they will do so.

Correct - this is all about supply and demand. There is a lot of demand and supply can't expand fast enough to match. The result is tons of opportunity for price gouging. If Ford could ramp production faster, this would be a non-issue. Since they can't, we all have to deal with paying the premium or hoping we get lucky. The other option is just to wait until supply catches up and pricing stabilizes. Based on demand we are seeing and what Ford has shared on production capability, that is likely late 2020's and after the Gen 1 Lightning. This is an industry wide issue, not just Ford. My guess is that EV trucks are at least somewhat supply constrained until the 2030's.
Remember the PT Cruisers when those first came out? Perfect case study.

Just so we're all clear, are you talking about moving orders or moving reservations?

No one even has the former yet, and many of us have done the latter. Hell, I've moved dealers twice now, once to Chapman and then back to my original dealer. No hassle, no pushback, no paying multiple deposits.

Make sure you're calling Ford's reservation number, not the dealership!

Seriously, if $500 is going to break you on a $50k+ transaction, maybe you shouldn't be buying a brand new vehicle at all.
For some people it's the principal of it more so than affording an extra $500. If you're buying lot stock for $500 over, for one you're super lucky. But more to the point, you expect it. It's the price you pay for the dealer having an in-demand vehicle.

If I'm ordering a custom vehicle (which they're already profiting from at MSRP), why should I give them a dime more than I should? It's just enabling them to be as greedy as possible.

I totally understand this but all that should be sorted out when you order. If they refuse to agree on pricing (or try to delay till the vehicle arrives) when you go to place the order, then place an order with a different dealer. It's my understanding that until the order is placed, you can change dealers. And as long as you place your order within the original ordering window, you'll keep your place. There's no requirement to order on day 1 to keep your place in line (which may change anyway based on a number of factors). Ordering within minutes of the orders opening will not get you moved closer to the beginning of the line if you are a current reservation holder. If you don't have a reservation today then all bets are off as to when or how you will be able to obtain a vehicle.

No, Ford is restricting transfer’s if I want a 2022 model. They are not allowing me to switch dealers and keep my place in line.

Assuming you meant moving a reservation... Moving a reservation is not restricted as far as I know and a dealer cannot prevent it but can choose to discourage it via pricing (i.e. ADM). Note that a dealer can say whatever they want about the process but that does not make it true. It does sound like whoever you were working with is trying to protect their current reservation holders place in line which is something I can respect. This is likely a direct response to Ford's decision on the Bronco not to increase allocations based on reservations but I don't recall if this model was confirmed for the Lightning.

Edit: I just realized that there was an entire page of replies since the post I was responding to...

Is that in writing somewhere? It would make more sense that Order date would be used for prioritizing deliveries as the deposit to order is the point of no return (of deposit).

It was well documented for the Bronco and expect it will be explained for the Lighting on or before the date that the order system opens. We don't know what it will be yet but some indications are that there will multiple ordering windows.

A popular SUV is selling in my area at $5k-$18K dealer markup. I don't think these are ones that people ordered, but just new ones sitting on the lots. I really wish people wouldn't buy them with markups like that because that may cause the dealers to stop doing it, but if people want to throw money away and get no equity for it, that's their choice. I'm out.

Not on the MachE though which is likely a better example. I went from deposit to order on the MachE. Dealer gave me deposit back when I switched to F150 reservation and because she had such high demand for the MachE.

If you didn't turn your deposit into an order, you went to end of the line as VINS's were asssigned by order.
