24,000 miles no problems.
What is the build date (month, year) for the truck? (driver's door jam, b pillar, sticker, top line) just to see if others of same month/year show similar problems.

I have a 2022 Lariat. Last Monday i had an appointment that was 80 miles one way. I have OTA's setup for everyday at 1am. Hadn't gotten an OTA since October 2023. So last Monday, when I get in the truck to come home I was surprised when I started the truck a message appeared on the display that the Gateway Module had been updated. (ECG-24.2.5.6.3)
Then 80 miles back home I stopped for about 30 minutes. So of course the truck wouldn't start. It was towed to the dealership, they worked on it most of the day on Tuesday. I picked it up on Wednesday. On Thursday, I drove it about the same distance and the same thing happened. So it's back at the dealership. The Gateway Module update created seven pages of trouble codes.
So from my experience, I would want a different Lightning. And to all Lightning owners, turn off OTA updates.

So if I use the IT side of my brain and apply similar methods as we do at work…

Never be bleeding edge. Allow major feature updates to be out in the wild for at least a month. Allow regular updates ie monthly Microsoft to be out for week before applying.

So what is the recommended time frame for these OTAs before allowing your truck to update or manually updating? Is there a place to manually pull the updates and apply them once they have been vetted? I’m guessing this info already exists and I just didn’t look for it.

To stay on point with original thread….still no update on dead or replacement vehicle other than last reported.

For the updates that we can suspend with the off switch, I'd say a week or two is enough time to see the feedback from first wave recipients, by nature I'm not seeing updates for 2/3/4 weeks after an initial release so I got that working for me.

FDRS tools can be used to manually pull individual parts of updates, but the OTA packages can't be pulled or pushed at will, based on what I read from @rugedraw and others.

Correct. There is nothing you can to do (unless you know someone or made a Facebook BFF that works for the Sync team at Ford like that d-bag I had to block on here some time ago) to force the server to queue up an update for a vehicle. FDRS is the only way to install available updates on the spot.

UPDATE!! Well at least on the original truck! Finally got through to the servicing dealer and they advised that the truck had just left to go back to selling dealer.

After the previously reported fix attempts failed, a Ford engineer had heard that another dealer had a similar issue and that there were 2 other options they wanted to try. One was a wiring harness that was not specified. The other was replace the cabin heater module. Since the cabin heater module was the least invasive of the options, that was the next choice to pursue. They replaced the module and have not received any error codes or messages since. Note that none of the previous errors even gave a hint that the culprit was a faulty cabin heater module.

I have updated the thread subject to include the fix and will try to have the first post point to this post either by reference or by link.

As far as the replacement truck, no communication from Ford this week and the selling dealer advised, after I reached out to them, that all they know is the truck is in route.

I've read trouble reports and watched a few videos about can bus connected components failing and affecting other parts of the network, this issue might fall into that category.

The replacement is still sitting at the assembly plant.
