🤞 crossed it’s a simple assembly fail and easy to fix. These trucks are awesome.

Thats the hope...

However in response to TaxmanHog, I have already been searching for similar builds.
Most people would have posted an epic rant by now and been on the phone with the GM to unwind the deal. I wondered to myself: "Why is this guy so calm about this and still willing to move forward with a Lightning regardless of the outcome of this particular vehicle?" Then I saw that you're not an EV neophyte--you also own a Mach-E.

I traded my wife's Mach-E in for my Lighting, so I too had EV experience before buying the Lightning. Fortunately, I've had zero issues with either EV so far. But I'm quite certain that if the first EV I bought was delivered to my home and immediately had to be towed away, I would have insisted on unwinding the deal and I would have become one of those EV haters and gone out and bought an ICE!

That said, I'm glad that didn't happen to me. We loved our Mach-E and the Lightning even more! Hopefully it's a minor thing that's easily resolved.

Over the Lightning forum years, there have been quite a few 'won't shift out of park' posts.

The most frequent cause seems to be a bad brake light switch/sensor so the truck thinks you are not fully pressing the brake. There is a solenoid (basically an electro-magnetic actuator) that might have malfunctioned.

Next seems to be a bad 12V batery or loose 12V battery connection(s).

More rarely it is a bad electrical connection to the shifter so the Lightning brains do not release the shifter despite the brake being depressed fully, or the mechanical part of the shifter interlock has an issue.

Nothing you can do at this point but let Ford sort it out.

Keep us posted.

In that case the truck would just start in accessory mode and wouldn't give any errors. Just as if you weren't pressing on the brake.

This doesn't necessarily mean that the truck will be a lemon or the fix will be complex or unreasonable.

Keep in mind that many of our trucks may have had the same problem at the end of the assembly line and were fixed at the factory and we are none the wiser. Every auto plant has a repair shop at the end of the line.

I'd at least give the dealer a chance to fix it. If it's a quick fix that seems like less hassle than unwinding the deal and finding another truck.

All true, but karma of the situation influences my confidence from day 0 of potentially owning a lemon.

Believe me...I keep going back and forth on this. Meanwhile they have my down payment and first month payment and no vehicle . The dealer does have a similar vehicle on the lot. Just needs a spray in bed liner.
