I have had my Lightning for about 2 weeks and use OPD all the time. I also have a Bolt EUV, which has an absolutely divine OPD mode IMHO. Anyway, the Lightning's OPD mode definitely feels very rough when accelerating. It's extremely hard to modulate smoothly when accelerating and is too responsive. The best way I can describe it is "notchy", like a small change in the pedal pressure causes a much greater change in motor output and acceleration.

I also happen to have a Mach-E loaner vehicle for the next few days and its OPD mode is excellent and very close to my EUV's smoothness, but the Lightning is terrible by comparison. Anyone else having trouble controlling the smoothness in accelerating their Lightning in OPD?
I still don't understand the benefit of OPD. For over 50 years I've owned and driven ONLY manual transmission cars so I'm used th "Three Pedal" so to speak. I tried OPD and I didn't like how the car didn't ever just "coast" (something I did often in the manual.) So, given I've not seen the benefits, I'm just not using OPD.

I don't experience any clunkiness as OP notes. I can accelerate and slow nice and smooth. It's at the slow speeds that Ford is sloppy and lacks control. I've never driving a Bolt, but having had 3 other Tesla's that I've driven - believe me if you've only driven a Ford you really don't know what control and nice one Pedal is at slow speeds - say under 5 MPH - pulling into a garage or parking place, etc. Ford Is just sloppy and lacks the control.

This sounds similar to my Bolt's OPD. At slow speeds it works so smoothly and is extremely easy to control speed. I haven't driven a Tesla so I can't comment on their OPD.

I have confirmed my Lightning isn't in sport mode (I remembered the display changed color when in sport mode). I wonder if there are any parameters that can be adjusted via Forscan. I assume not.

I admit I was a big fan of coasting driving in EVs for several years. Audi/VW EVs are designed with this regeneration strategy and it works well. However, when you have a vehicle with good OPD (the Lightning doesn't qualify as good OPD at this time IMHO), you will see the beauty of it, having to infrequently use the brake pedal, less foot moving going on. It's especially nice when going into turns, making it easy to slowdown into them without having to tap the brake pedal.

The Forscan experts haven't noted anything and just last weekend I plugged Forscan in and went through every module, just poking around. I saw nothing of the sorts for any kind of one pedal control.

This is simply poor management of the drive system. There is slack and slop between accelerate and region / vice versa. I've commented on it a few times since I got my truck last year. Its disappointing.

Test drive last week. Opd felt ridiculously bad at slow speed. Used to my 2017 bolt which I don't believe has an opd setting.

I don't understand why one would bother with opd other than reducing wear and tear on brakes. I rarely touched brakes in bolt. Regen should work whether you are coasting to a stop or braking. It's simply a matter of your skill driving and your awareness of Regen and desire to maximize power savings.

Does my Lightning have regen without 0PD? If so what is the purpose? More agressive regen? I hate the display icon. Just seems unnecessary.

Yes, all Lightnings (and pretty much all non-Tesla EVs) have a blended brake design. Regen works whether using OPD or just the brake pedal.

I love the OPD mode. I wish the regenerative braking was a little more aggressive, but I've not experienced this chunkiness that you speak of. OPD is the only way I roll. :cool:

that’s the brake coach. It’ll show even when not using 1PD. You can turn it off via the infotainment screen settings.
