So I’ve put 15,000 miles on my lightning so far and maybe once or twice in its entire life have broken 2.2 mkwh while on the road. Sure putzing from one side of town to the next I might get 3 1/2 but 95% of my driving is open highway and my average is 1.9. I still have one of the trips left alone since when I bought it and it also says my lifetime average is 1.9. These vehicles are supposed to learn our driving patterns and give us information that reflect the way we drive yet every time I charge this thing up to 90%. It tells me I have over 300 miles of range. We all know that’s not the case though at 90% on my extended range battery. 90% equals 117 kW multiplied by 1.9 equals 222. So why after having put over 10,000 miles on this thing and never breaking 3 kWh does this thing calculate mileage like I get 3 kWh? I love this truck and there are a few things that I don’t like. This is probably one of the more annoying. I’ve gotten to where I just use my calculator to figure my range instead of using their gauge.

I dreamed about owning an EV for years and did a ton of research before finally buying one one thing I was not expecting was that the advertised range was city use not highway

The Ford predictive algorithm always show "Spec" value vs real life value above this SOC, it's been this way since mid cycle of model year 2022.

That’s dumb, but thank you.
If you go back to the "old days" of Lightning forum, you'll see ranting a rage for the realistic predictions based on driver behaviour and environmental conditions, so much, that they "fooled" the masses to be satisfied with a false promise that all was perfect above a certain SOC.... Yes Stupid.

A reality of 21st century America........ we are doomed as a society if this continues IMHO.

I think it would be more accurate to say it shows a minimum of the spec range. It will estimate greater for me when I charge over 80% after a lot of city driving.

Spot on! When it calculated it correctly, everyone was posting thinking there was some sort of battery capacity issue with their trucks (including ME!). When that was happening, there wasn't nearly enough education for the buyers so they would be prepared for it. Unfortunately it seems they had to dumb it back down and now those of us who better understand how it works are frustrated that it is no longer doing simple math... I only get frustrated by it when towing where the accuracy of the range is far more critical and the numbers are far lower.

Heck of a dilemma for an auto maker... you have to choose who to annoy because there is no scenario where everyone will be happy.

Mine is usually pessimistic about my range when freeway driving. Even after going 217 miles at 2.8 miles/kWh (4.2 miles/%), it still thinks I'll only get 2.2 miles/kWh (3.3 miles/%) for the rest of the journey. After >50,000 miles, mostly road tripping, I have yet to be in a position of not being able to get where I'm going.

I agree definitely pessimistic on long road trips. This is when I’m returning to charge it but all part of the same issue with how it calculates range. I’ve gotten to the point where I can almost do the math in my head and just look at state of charge instead, now that they finally fixed it and have that on the main screen

I usually do the math in my head. If it's a particularly nasty division, I just ask Google to do it. :)

Over 16k miles in 1 year also, lifetime average is 2.1 m/kWh. Road trips are 70mph now and I count on 2m/kWh, never the ridiculous range. Also since I got the % battery OTA update, the current trip m/kWh is very optimistic on short trips under 10 to 15 miles.

I was helping a coworker looking at a Hyundai ioniq 6 yesterday and a quick search showed they have same issue with optimistic range and understanding when they don't get the range either.
