Does the Data also count when they changed the billing a few years ago to a break down which includes: delivery, generation, nuclear decomissioning, wild fire recovery fees, and other fees that the locals voted in. Our KW charge is as high as .58 cents per KW with SCE depending on your plan. Its life in the Golden State.

My friend made this table. And to my knowledge, the price is the final and apple to apple. He is an engineer, and very STEM oriented.

I have the EV2A rate (for EV owners) with PG&E, the current off-peak (midnite to 3pm) rate is 27.2 cents, just went up from 25.1 cents on July 30. That includes all but the min distribution charge, which is a fixed 37.6 cents per day (~$11.50/month).

Are these "all in" rates, including all the fees that apply to every kWh?

Not sure how much longer our rates will last, but they have been steady at 8.16c/kWh 24/7 since 2011. With a $12 monthly service fee.

NO. The "distribution" charge is usually 4x or more of the generation cost. For example, I might use $50/mo @ 37 cents per kWh, but my bill will be closer to $200 for electricity including the distribution charges.

PG&E is f----d.

That doesn't sound right. At 37 cents and a $50 bill, that means you used ~135 kWh for the entire month, is that right? .37 sounds like the all-in price to me for PG&E. My distribution cost with PG&E is a fixed 37.6 cents per day (~$11.50/month). No way that your is $150, their rates don't vary that much.

I had to look at the bill again.

The generation costs are $0.12-0.21/kWh (off-peak/peak) and the distribution charges are $0.27-0.58/kWh (off-peak/peak), then subtract a generation credit.

890kWh of electricity from PG&E costs $336 or $0.37/kWh blended which is the most expensive electricity in the country. The cheapest being Seattle at $0.13/kWh and many other states around $0.15/kWh.

Go PG&E!

You got me curious to see if PG&E (and CA in general) is actually the most expensive for residential electrical costs. The prices are tracked for each state here:
https://www.eia.gov/electricity/monthly/epm_table_grapher.php?t=epmt_5_6_a

Here are charts showing the highest and lowest 10 states (using the most recent data from eai.gov which is from May 2023):

Greater Sacramento area is not with SMUD and price is much lower like 10 cents per kWh plus some fees. Bayarea SMUD price is also lower. Our county is special with super high rates.

Yeah only 4th highest on that chart, but CA has different providers so depends on where you live and how you average across them. For me, PG&E is $0.37/kWh blended rate which would put it near Hawaii. We are paying 3X what people in Arkansas pay for no good reason.

It's not about me. I can afford it. It's about incompetence and grift and it's hurting a lot of retired/low-income people. My dad got a $700 utility bill when not that long ago it was $150 (natural gas is even worse than electricity in CA).

Our latest 7-1-23 SCE (SoCalEdison) EV summer rate (TOU-D-Prime) is about $0.26/kWh except 4-9pm when it is about $0.66/kWh! I think Winter rates go down during day a little bit more than night rates compared what is shown below. [Aprroximate rates as our generator is 3CEnergy.org (Central Coast Community Energy)]. Time to move nearer to the Columbia River systems in Washington!

Gas is about $5/gallon, so if I can charge at an average of $0.25/kWh and average 2.0mi/kWh, then for $5, I can go 40 miles, 40eMPG. How was that sticker 68eMPG derived? Gee, I hope gas prices go up more so I can feel better, since electric rates are not coming down with all the middlemen involved. Why does California have to be first in saving the planet? Hoping for lots more cheap offshore wind power as soon as possible.
