Hey guys, I’ve noticed that my seats are starting to get a bit grimy from normal use. I’m wondering if someone can suggest a leather cleaner to use for the light colored seats, and if there are any tips/tricks for cleaning the perforated leather? I’ve never had light colored leather before and I don’t want to use something that may ruin the seat! Thanks on advance

I had the unfortunate privilege of smoking up the inside of my Lariat on a camping trip recently.

A 50/50 mix of water and vinegar is your friend. Do not wet the seat but either mist it or use a rag and wring it out throughly. A damp touch is what you want.

There are other leather cleaners you can buy, but I prefer to avoid many unknown chemicals as possible.

Happy cleaning.

Griots 3-in-1 leather cleaner/conditioner/protectant

saw it recommended on here/YouTube - it doesn't leave a ridiculous shine/smell, but cleans and looks good!

I would prefer to not use chemicals either so I have been just using water. My concern though is if I keep cleaning it, will I dry out the leather. I am thinking with Vinegar it would be even worse. Doesn't leather need hydration or conditioning? I am not a leather expert but perhaps someone here is.

I believe the white vinegar deleted in water is in fact a conditioning agent. It has worked for me without ill affect.

There are of course leather conditioners on the market and I would use a good quality product after cleaning with the solution I mentioned.

Good Luck with your efforts.

2 products high end detailers will use:

Pol Star is a neutral interior cleaner suitable for leather and fabrics
Leather Star to hydrate and keep that leather supple

I haven't made a dent in either bottle after monthly cleanings the past 2 years.

Chemical Guys leather cleaner and conditioner and a microfiber towel. Use a light bristled brush for tougher stains. Never use a magic eraser. It will work but it works by sanding off the surface of the leather.

The perforation isn't an issue for a light cleaner like the one I linked above. Spray it on liberally. You want the lubrication effect of the liquid. Otherwise you are trying to grind away dirt.

The conditioner can get in the perforation holes but is easily wiped away as long as it's still wet. Better yet, rub the conditioner into your towel before applying and it's a non-issue.

Even Platinum seats are some combination of leather and vinyl. I can't tell which surfaces are leather and which are vinyl so I treat them as if they are all leather by cleaning and conditioning with the same product. This has worked well for me on many leather seats vehicles.
