Should I be concerned about the Fitcamx getting in the way of airbags?

Purchased a FitcamX with the rear camera option and after watching a few videos, saw some comments about the wiring for the rear camera potentially intereffing with the airbags.

How have you all installed these? Wondering if I should just stick with the front cam only.

which airbag? You should be able to route the cable out of the way.

The only issue is how you run the cable to the rear camera. Make sure when you run the cable across the head liner the when you get to the driver side pillar that you just don’t tuck it behind the top of the grab handle pillar because you will be crossing in front of the side curtain airbag this could imped the deployment of the air bag. What you need to do is remove the handle pillar and go around the curtain airbag bag. I also added parking monitoring so I went to the passenger side down to the fuse box and did the same exact thing. This is very important. Peace

I have a different brand but same idea. I routed the rear cam cable down the driver's side A pillar, then under the plastic door sill/floorboards on the driver side front and rear doors, then back up the trim and to the rear window. Saw a Youtube video, wasn't that hard and it stayed away from the side airbags.

Yeah, that’s exactly what I did. I ran down the front grab handle pillar out of the way of the airbag across the floor door seals to the back and then up to the camera on the right rear of the driver side yeah I just want everybody to be aware cause this could be dangerous anyway thanks guys appreciate all the help I get from this forum

Thanks guys. How much of a hassle is it to run it all the way down the grab handle and then back up? Is there a manual or video that shows how to take the grab handle apart?

just stick a pick in the hole at the bottom of the cap on the grab handle and pop it up. Then think there are two bolts to remove and done.

Yeah, it’s not too bad. The hardest part is getting the little cover off where the 2 10mm bolts are on the grab handle. He is one of those little plastic little pry tools. I do it at the bottom in case I booger up the bottom of the cover. Just take your time. Pull the cover off. Take the 2 10 mm bolts out grab the handle pull it. It pops right off and then you’ll see right in the cable on the front porch closer to the windshield. There’s little tabs that hold the airbag in place. Just make sure you do it on the other side. Use some zip ties just to keep it out of the way it’s pretty. You can do a search on parking mode for dash cam and I’m pretty sure you can find it.

If you’re talking about the wire for the rear facing camera I just did it like this guy did. See around the 11 minute mark on this video

Yeah, I really enjoy this guy’s videos, but he did it across the airbag which is not correct. I did post something on his YouTube video to make sure that he’s aware of it so he can correct it because the side passenger curtain airbag may not deployed correctly with the wire going across it

That's what I want to avoid. Running it that way most likely impedes the airbag.
