My dealer said flat-out they do nothing about the CSP-23B57 unless something goes wrong. Does this sound right? It sure doesn’t smell right. Is it a reason NOT to buy the truck I’ve been waiting 2 years for?
Thanks!

Buy the truck and schedule the service at another dealer and tell this dealer you’re never bringing your business (service or sales) back there.

@designthis recall = safety CSP = minor problem, usually doesn’t effect all

i’m not going back to read this CSP, but dealer does software update, after update, module test is performed.. small percentage of modules fail - this is not the battery.
it’s not that big of a deal.
‘if module is bad, they replace module.

get truck enjoy.

mine was built in the first 2 weeks of retail production- never had this issue.
truck is 98% great. 1% sucky software, .5 % crappy dealer service dept, .5% things they could have done better.

I absolutely love my Lightning. That being said this recall is scary, plus the value they have dropped. You are more than likely getting it at the lowest price than most of us. If mine isn’t fixed in 30 days. Very tempting to ditch it for what I paid, or close to it. Buy a gas truck and keep it for two years, then buy an updated one with more range. It’s just a thought and have to keep all options open for myself and do what’s best for me.

People are really blowing this soon to come OTA out of proportion.
Exactly, I'm one for letting the OTA take it's course, but since I'm sending my truck in on the 9th of November for hardware issues, wiper motor inspection/replacement if needed, light bar on tailgate and dash mat replacement, figured they could spend the 90 minutes flashing the update as well and bill the MoCo for the whole shebang.

You've been here for a year, you're not used to this? :D

No matter what Ford (or anyone else writes), 50% of the population interprets it not as they intended.

My yet to be delivered truck has two lovely issues and the dealer said they don't do anything until it is sold (makes sense for the recall since Ford doesn't know how to fix it yet)

That's my plan also.

First, yes you should take delivery. This is not a recall and in 96% of cases it is just a software update.
Second, your dealer, like most Ford dealers does not know what they are talking about. The instructions clearly tell the dealer to perform the SW update on every truck that arrives at the dealership before delivery.

Buy the truck. I took my Lightning to my dealer while out of town. They accomplished the 23B57 and ordered parts for the other two service/recalls on the record. This would be the third tailgate light bar, Ford is replacing.
If your dealer cannot do 23B57, take it to another dealer. My dealer was on top of this CSP recall. They even apologized for not having the recalled parts on hand to accomplish the job.
Buy the truck.!!!

I agree that this CSP is minor. I slotted it in with other issues and would not have worried about it otherwise. That said, it's a bad sign that the dealer is unwilling to put in the shop time to get it taken care of before it leaves the lot. If you have another dealer nearby that has better service take delivery. If not, you can bet that service will be an ongoing issue.

All new vehicles and tech have problems. It boils down to whether your local partner is someone you can trust to stay on top of them with you. I now drive 30 minutes past the dealer I purchased from to get service from an alternate that seems to care.

This could be a STOP sale situation, discuss this with sales to confirm.

It's a reason to stay way from this dealer's service department. If you have another nearby dealer, check with them. If the other dealer takes care of it, buy the truck and never deal with them ever again. Obviously, the selling dealer doesn't want to provide service. CSP-23B57 takes about 30 minutes, and if they are willing to invest that kind of time (for which they will get reimbursed), they don't deserve your business.
