Unfortunately, due to regulations regarding the traction control system you have to select it every time or push ok to stay in a different mode than normal.
Correct me if I'm misremembering this, but I recall about a year or so ago there was an OTA update that changed it to what many want: leaving in Sport mode the next time the vehicle is turned on.

Trouble was, it was against the regulations and they had to issue a safety recall. Getting the letter about this is how I found out about the change as we weren't using Sport mode.

It was one of those recalls where the notice said it would be fixed OTA by some date, but you could get it done sooner at a dealership if you wanted.

Anyone know of adverse effects to selecting sport mode while driving? I too have to wait 15-20 seconds to select sport mode if I miss the ā€œreturn to sport mode promptā€. So I sometimes need to start driving before the settings page becomes responsive enough to select sport.

Slightly OT: Why does changing modes interrupt any Carplay/android music that might be playing?
But yeah, FORD seems to be overridden with lawyers or fear of regulation - This is an iconic vehicle - it is THE quintessential poster child for American Freedom - it is an F150 after all - and yet here we are castrated? WTF?

I use sport mode only for the increased regen. If Ford would let us set the regen we want and keep it between sessions it would solve this annoying issue for me. The karaoke has been SUPER useful so far though. A great use of IT time, lets hope someone built that in their spare time and they didn't actually pay someone to do that FFS!

I do it all the time, you can feel the throttle response change.

So there's no traction control in sport mode? I suspected sport mode wasn't a wise choice in the snow, but this confirms it.
Traction control is still active in Sport, the hand wringing was all about Off Road mode.

I still wouldn't recommend Sport in snow, the gentler throttle response in Normal is definitely easier to avoid losing traction.

Resetting sport is annoying and now when you turn on adaptive cruise lane keep comes on, maybe I only want cruise on. Then when you cut cruise off and lane keep stays on!?!?!

Agreed. If I turn a feature on, and the truck feels it must enable subordinate features; when I turn the initial feature off, the truck should automatically disable the subordinate features it enabled. There are stretches around town where I like to use adaptive cruise control but have no desire/need for lane keeping. It used to be that turning on ACC only turned on ACC. Quit trying to think you know how I should be driving and let me continue to be the decision maker.

I think the whole premise of how they have it is flawed. I get the exact same prompt in tow mode where it defaults back to normal if you don't press ok in time. It is absurd that it will switch to normal even if you are towing a trailer. When I was using Sport mode and got use to it, one time I didn't realize I didn't hit ok in time and I got startled that my truck was coasting into the car ahead of me instead of the regen slow down I was expecting.

I am of the firm believe that things should remain how I left them. We have user profiles for a reason. If I have it in sport, it should return to sport until I change it. Having the truck change stuff "for my safety" is a much bigger safety hazard in my opinion.

I expect you like the feeling of the truck slowing a bit more aggressivly.

Fwiw, know that using the brake pedal uses regen to slow the truck and you will always get as much regen as the truck can make regardless of mode and/or using the brake pedal

I like the Sport setting for the dash "lighting".
Much sharper contrast is easier on this old guys eyes.

Yes it does, but when you use the brake pedal, the truck decides how much and when the friction braking will be used. Much of this depends on how much pressure you apply and also what speed the vehicle is going (i.e. the blend for the pressure applied varies a bit with speed).

The vehicle will use as much regen as possible, but there is a point where friction must be used. At about 2 or so mph, it loses its effectiveness and must use friction. When the vehicle gives you a brake score of 100%, it means that all the regen that possibly could be used to stop was used. A score of less means that some friction braking was used that could have been done with regen if it weren't for pressing too hard on the brake pedal. Now, if you did so because the car in front of you suddenly hit the brakes, then the loss of regen is better than what would have happened if you hit them trying to get every last drop of regen ort of the stop.

Using one-pedal mode and keeping your foot off the brake pedal will give a score of 100% on every stop. I don't use Sport Mode, but my understanding is that it provides a similar benefit of regen.

In my observation, when using the brake pedal on the Lightning, I have a better chance of getting a 100% score than I do with my Focus Electric. On the FFE, you have to be extremely light on the brake pedal to get 100%. So many times I swear I was really light only to get a score of 96 to 99. The Lightning seems easier to get 100%.

I use sport mode 100% of time or I donā€™t drive the truck. Over a week in snow and ice using sport mode no problems. If I was in 1 peddle I would crash into my garage wall or similar situations. Iā€™m very use to the better regenerative braking and better steering that sport mode provides. We really need a way to FORscan it to stay in sport always. Two years of Lightning ownership and Ford still not listening. I donā€™t get the off road mode excuse as why we donā€™t get to stay in sport mode all the time. Two different lines of code.
Easy fix for a programmer.
