Tesla charging giving 175kwh

My first Tesla charger gave me 120kwh on my 23 sr. After a dealership software update I then got 175kwh. I am under the impression that 125 should be max. Should I be concerned? Anybody else seeing these numbers?

Completely normal. Iā€™ve gotten 180 Iā€™ve seen some at 190. It will pull that for a few minutes then go down as the SOC gets higher.

175 on an SR?! Wow, that's faster than I have seen with my ER.

I don't think there really is a "max" charge speed number. A wide variety of factors contribute to how fast the battery can absorb energy. This includes temp, charge level, etc. There are also a variety of little things that may contribute too, like cable temp, battery age, cell voltage variation, cooling system temp, charger temp, etc. If it happens it's probably just all those things coming together.

I didnā€™t even see the SR part. Lord I need to go to sleep šŸ˜‚ hey if the truck is asking for it. Let it take it. Batteries are the same. One is just bigger. I myself have the ER. Not sure about the cables and stuff but any thermal issues would(should) automatically limit it for heating issues.

This past weekend charging at a Supercharger in 25F weather with the truck preconditioning prior to charging...normal.

That is identical to my scenario right down to the price. Except mine was in Canadian dollars lol.

State of Charge has this video:



In it, he describes how Ford implements a "max power boost" (his term) period where the charge rate will go above the usual rating for about 4 to 6 minutes, depending on battery temperature. In the video, it climbs to just above 160 kW.

One benefit of this is that if you find yourself only needing a small top-up to get you to your destination, this can cut your time needed so you can get back on the road. In the video, he shows how this will get you about an extra 30 miles of highway driving with a five minute stop.

How do you confirm the truck is pre condition when going to a supercharger? Are you putting a nearby charger in the nav?

That is what I did. I could not get many chargers listed directly through the truck so I set the destination in the ford app and it transferred to Apple Maps.
I was able to verify it with the car scanner. Battery temp rose.

Yup. I put the Tesla Supercharger in Google Maps as my destination about an hour away. Got 170+ kWh instantly on a 25F day with 10F wind chill. There's no way it would have been so fast if it wasn't preconditioned. This confirmed to me that the Google Map integration with the Lightning does indeed do what they says it is supposed to do. The destination charge level was very accurate as well. No need for crappy Ford Nav to precondition or let me know what my charge will be during the drive.

Wow, I wasn't aware that google or apple maps could trigger a precondition. That's good to know.

Only Google Maps on Android Auto. Apple Maps doesn't precondition for now anyways.
Ok, that makes more since cause I use car play and havenā€™t seen any indications of preconditioning yet outside of the ford nav.

I have the same to say about using Google maps routing. This past weekend, I tested it on a longer day trip. It seemed to account for wind, elevation, and temperature effects. In fact it was a little conservative resulting in a arrival with a few percent more than estimated. Like partly due to driving a bit under the speed limit on the Interstate.
