If it was from another vehicle, his window and headlights would have residue. Unless of course he ran over an entire case of oil and didn't notice it..

I agree with @Ricks Lightning. The transmission fluid in the Lightning is red. The spray pattern suggests the oil was released at high pressure. There's a bunch of suspects in front of the motor. My bet is a leaking line replaced or reattached plus an oil change fixes it.

If I understand the motor design, the motor oil is self contained to the motor, there are no eternal lines like you might see in an ICE application, ie. transmission cooler connections to & from the radiator.

Our motors oil is pumped internally through a few gallys and then to machined ports which interface with a oil/glycol heat exchanger, only glycol flows through the connected hoses.

Potential oil leak points are the external pump, oil filter, heat exchanger, output shafts & case mating surfaces.

I'd rather be safe than sorry
Yes, words to live by.

Although it would be unusual for the oil to get on your own front bumper - like you point out it is possible via pin-hole and spraying under pressure.
On the other hand if this came from a vechicle in front of you, I would expect the oil to go up all over your windshield as much as below coating the undercarrige area.
Best to get it checked before worse things happen, from low fluid level somewhere.
Hope you report back what the shop finds out. Interested to know.

Years ago…
As my wife and I were moving to Texas, I was driving my 66 Mustang and she was behind me in her jeep.
It was a clear day as we passed through Amarillo.
She called me on the walkie-talkie to tell me that it was raining something all over her windshield. We pulled over and there was stuff on her truck, but I did not see any leaks from my car.
So we continued…
A couple minutes later I looked in the rearview mirror and there was a giant white cloud following me as the front transmission seal, let loose completely and was pouring ATF fluid on the headers and it was burning off. A quick U-turn and we only made it a mile before the transmission quit working.

To me this looks like you got behind something that really letting loose. Maybe a trash truck that lost a hydraulic line, because yes, a high-pressure line could spray stuff but I am doubtful it would come out through the grill and around and back onto the front of the truck, especially at speed.

Good idea to get it checked out, but I am cautiously optimistic that your truck is OK and it just need a good degreasing

Morning guys. Thanks for all the interest. Yes i take the comma out every time. I don't need the drama. But it was in until yesterday taking care of a bunch of items and updates. Turns out the consensus was correct. I guess it was from someone i was following. Im still astonished at the amount of fluid under my truck! Better safe than sorry.

Thanks for all the input and interest on my thread. I guess this truck is still kicking strong at 2.5 years and 67k miles. Im pleasantly surprised. ..

I'm also amazed at the quantity of fluid, which is why I pity the poor guy you were following. Bad news for them, great news for you. Happy it all worked out.

Happy FRIDAY!! :)

Great news, and that the updates went smoothly, also....I'm sure that is a relief...

in 2018, after SPEEDCO changed the oil in our rear-engine diesel motorhome, we experienced a similar, and yes, perplexing 'coating' or 'spray' of some type of something all over our tow hitch bar, tow CAR, and even up the back of the motorhome, as high as 12'... we only noticed it after returning from a short Walmart stop.

I was absolutely SHOCKED at the amount of oil coating EVERYTHING you can imagine!

it WAS the motorhome. Right in front of the engine, down near the lower end, there is a lower 'overflow' hose, or what I call a 'drippy' hose, like a vacuum hose. I never paid any attention to it, until now.
I realized that while the motorhome drove just fine, and there was no reason to initially believe anything was 'wrong' with the motorhome, itself, I did some more digging. Seeing a larger puddle of oil, in a specific place right under the front of the engine, over a short while of sitting in that Walmart parking lot, after returning from shopping, told me volumes...

SPEEDCO had overfilled the diesel engine oil.
It takes 15 quarts for an oil change.
They had filled 25.
Even the paperwork said so.
So, the overflow hose did exactly as it was designed to, unfortunately for me.

I called SPEEDCO and told the manager my issue. They heard my cries, understood their mistake, and refunded my $386 Oil Change charge, although that certainly didn't take care of washing the CAR, the tow equipment, and the whole BACK END of the huge motorhome. It was crazy.
