2022 Lightning (Ordered 6/19, delivered 10/28/22)
Correct. It charges in 3 scenarios that I've tracked so far:
1) When ON
2) When plugged in and only when the HVB is charging
3) When the failsafe for the 12v battery is reached (50%) - In this case the truck charges the 12v to 100% and goes into deep sleep mode.
My issue is I have a commute only 3 -4 days per week....9mi each way. If I wanted to, I could drive nearly a month before plugging in to charge the HVB. I'm not sure I am getting my LVB back to 100%..if my driving is enough to charge it by itself.

Yes, shorter trips are an issue. It's probably more related to how long the truck is on and less to do with how far you drive. It took 52 minutes to charge my LVB from 50% to 100% (say 1% per minute) when unplugged and not running.

When I took a short trip of 26 minutes, it went from 61% to 78% which maps pretty close to the 1% per minute even though there are more 12V accessories when ON.

Keep in mind, I suspect my 12V battery is weak and not running at full capacity. I expect a new battery would take longer to charge/discharge.

I recently had this issue, and eventually my battery completely died. I walked out to the truck and got no response whatsoever, even though it was plugged in. I replaced the battery and it seemed to fix the issue, but its only been about a month and I am getting the Electrical Drain message again. I am hoping I didn't get a defective battery, and my first battery should have been warrantied, and the dealer wouldn't warranty it. I've barely had the truck a year and that battery should be warrantied for at least 2 years. I am going to keep an eye on it and if it pops up again I will take it to the dealer, but I am skeptical if they will be able to fix the issue. I am tempted to mod the compartment and put a bigger battery in.

What reason did the dealer give you for not replacing the battery under warranty?

Did you have the 12v bms replaced under the CSP from ford?

They just stated that it wasn’t covered under warranty according to their system. I probably could have pushed the issue, but this is my only vehicle and they were about to close, so I just paid for it as I couldn’t wait the whole weekend to have a working vehicle.

^^^^. What @Heliian said. I got the "Electrical System Drain" message all the time since new until I did the BMS CSP. I haven't seen it since.

Yeah right after I replaced the battery
Do you know if they reset the BMS when they replaced the battery and BMS? If not, you can try this.

LVB BMS reset:
  • Start Accessory mode
  • flash high beams 5 times
  • step on brake pedal 3 times
  • red battery icon on dash should flash 3 times
Also, it takes about an hour, perhaps more to charge the battery fully when installed. You can leave the truck on for an hour and lock it, or put battery maintainer on it. You can check your 12v SOC on Ford.com. Sign in to you account and it is the Charge Level on the account page. I'd leave the truck on until it gets to 100% or at least high 90s once the BMS is reset.

I’m not sure if they reset it or not so I will give it a try. My commute to work is over an hour so the battery should have been fully charged when I got here. I got the notification about 5 hours after I arrived, so I’m not sure why it would be having issues. I also went to the my account page and it said the charge level was at 98%. So that’s confusing.

I got it just yesterday and have done the BMS update a couple of months back. I had been powering the house with the truck and testing my setup. Then I moved the truck and parked it on Saturday. Got in the truck on Sunday and got the message. The HVB was about 85% SOC, I didn't think to check the LVB.
