My wife had to change out a flat tire and managed to twist this part of the jack.
No, she is not super human.
Anyone else able to twist this thing?

Thanx,
Jeff

Good on her!! My wife wouldn’t even know how to get the jack out, let alone tear it up using it. 😂🤣

My old SUV has a stupid bottle jack but it doesn't have a lever up/down action to lift, it has a twist action. One has to use the end of the tire iron and it's damn near impossible to use underneath the truck on the rear axel. I don't know what sort of jack they give you these days, but it appears it's still woefully inadequate. I'll make sure to have good roadside assistance and then figure out a way to secure a quality jack if heading on adventures.

The only thing I will say is that scissor jacks need a LOT of torque at the early part of their travel--i.e. when they are mostly closed. I used to put a 2x6 under mine so that I could lift it farther up, until I bent the hook part on my jack (on a previous Ford). If she did not have the jack more than 1/3 open when it got loaded, then I can understand how she ended up with twisted metal. The mechanical advantage improves dramatically the more the jack is opened.

Mine was bent "out of the box"
Not that badly, but enough for it to be annoying. That whole contraption (crank assy) is a joke.

I’ve used the Jack twice: once to help a stranded motorist change a tire on a small passenger vehicle, and once to rotate the tires on my other vehicle (a multi-Jack operation). Both times I was wondering if the Jack would actually support the Lightning, and hoping I would never have to find out!

Result from showing the dealer: Not our problem.
Took the truck to Les Schwab and they gave here a replacement.

We both know the issues with sissor jacks, but still. If it wasn't for a Subaru stopping and sharing a part of their jack, she would still be stuck out there.

She was way up in the forest. Guessing a couple of hours before someone might show up.
Easier to just solve the problem with the tools at hand.

This seems like a name and shame situation.

Has anyone found an aftermarket jack that they like using and stores nicely for the self tire changers out there? I agree those scissor jacks are woefully inadequate and scary most of the time!
