I'm leaning towards a Scout Terra. Timing would be good (2027 target) but the Lightning has devalued so much maybe I keep it and go with the Scout Traveler. Dunno--the Lightning is a great truck. I'm concerned with electronics more than drive train items like batteries. This happened yesterday at the same time the info screen was possessed too. Finally shut down everything and all is now good(er).

At 74 yrs old, I might keep my 2023 Pro until I have ceased to exist - knock on wood.

I replaced a 2001 Ford Ranger XL (given to a grandson for college driving) with the Lightning.

But I still have, and occasionally drive, a 2012 Nissan Leaf bought in Dec 2011 with 10 out of 12 bars left = about 80% range/battery, low mileage (telecommuting cut my driving way down), and it's still a good local driving vehicle for tight spaces that the Lightning would have problems with, low to zero maintenance, and beats the -bleep- out of buying gasoline and supporting big oil.

So car dealerships probably hate me a little bit - they don't make money off EV maintenance and I keep vehicles "until the wheels fall off" - BTW, never had THAT happen and I hope it never does, either!

Of course I do send the dealerships new EV buyers now and then by being an advocate for driving electric, so I am not all bad.
74? We’re just easing out of middle age.

My son will be 15 and starting to drive when my truck is about 12 years old. Tentative plan is to give it to him when he’s old enough, assuming he’s responsible and mature enough to drive a truck with this much power. On the fence about that, so time will tell.

I usually keep vehicles for 8-12 years and this will likely be no different. I may trade in when the warranty is near the end. I am older (60+) and want the latest tech to help me. I just had the lighting in the body shop for a small repair and the replacement rental, although a brand new Ram pickup, had lackluster driving features.

My plan is to drive my 23 Lightning (26k) and my 22 Mach E (56k) indefinitely. I typically replace the wheels just before they are about to fall off. I haven’t found a junk yard stocking up on EVs yet. My only problem is I’m 76 now and I’m not sure if I will be still turning wrenches at 80ish! I’d love to try to swap out a battery in my driveway. I’m guessing the truck would be easier than the Mustang because the battery is the frame in the Mustang.

Interesting! What prompted Ford to send you a private offer?
I’m not sure how they make that decision. I buy a new truck every couple years and a new car every couple years. Financed through Ford. But I also do build and price vehicles on their website a lot and I do not opt out of them sending me emails. 🤷‍♂️

Have a 23 XLT SR... planned on keeping for at least 5 years as we usually do.... then wanted to trade it for cybertruck... but right now, less than a year after buying looking at 24 Flash.

Lack of autopilot on XLT drives me bonkers.... especially since we love it on our Teslas.

Already cancelled the Ford service plan I bought for a refund.

Thanks for all the responses, they have helped immensely. I guess I have more of an EV anxiety than range anxiety. I'm probably looking towards the end of the month or into December before deciding.

that was my plan too... and then I drove the Cybertruck...
Not trolling. I had a very early one. Back seat wasn’t as big as I would have liked. Ford definitely has more room and the extra cupholders on the back of the console is a game changer. But it drove like a dream. Air suspension. No pull when flooring it. And now they have FSD. What did you really not like about it? For me the worst was it didn’t really feel like a truck. More like an El Camino. It didn’t feel like it sat higher than other vehicles which the Ford does. But the Air Suspension does adjust which the Ford obviously doesn’t. But because of that the ride is trash.

So we had my lightning at model 3 for the past year and just recently upgraded to the Y. LOVE the Model Y.

The CT was definitely "Tesla" but what bugged me, it was super noisy. The truck I test drove at Tesla was making suspension noise wayyyy too much. The 4 wheel steering was a bit jarring at low speeds and definitely made it feel disconnected at times from the road. Tiny frunk... I would have to wrap it because it shows fingerprints like crazy, back seats were definitely smaller and you are 100% right, it did not feel like sitting in a truck and more like a lifted Model Y...

Big things for me.... lack of console storage that we have on lightning and even Model 3/Y.... and of course while headliner and seats felt awesome.... definitely "cheap" in many ways such as USB-c ports in back which had no lables/lights/covers....

Even after test drive, while at TEsla I was ready to order it but decided to do it when i got home... then i got back into my lightning and the differences were night and day... the Lightning felt much more solid all around and our trucks are definitely no slouches in terms of performance...

No... they have crappy turn radius like a truck... and the biggest miss is the lack of autopilot... but overall the Lightning is just much more practical...

Biggest thing was, I definitely don't think the CT was worth 2x what my 2023 Lightning XLT is...

I would certainly pick up a Gen 2 or 3 cybertruck though.

The Demo CT I was driving had panels that were already loose on them and MANY people having issues with motors failing on CyberTrucks... (check out tesla forums).

Oh another miss on CT.... the silly camera button we have on our trucks that I routinely use when trying to park in a spot etc. On CT yeah, it can park for you... but sometimes, you just want to throw up a camera and park yourself...

Two of my teenage cousins died in a single car accident reportedly caused by another car driven by other teenagers. I remember how I was driving when I was younger. Completely oblivious to the risks I was surrounded by. Although lightning may be slightly safer for your son, it is a deadly weapon to others. I highly recommend something underpowered for his first car. I never tried anything stupid with my Frontier (140 hp) because I simply would look stupid trying. When I floored it, it would just get louder with no noticeable difference in speed. That is a perfect first car for a teenager.
