My girls learned to drive on a Buick Roadmaster station wagon and a beat up Grand Marquis. Lots of metal around them and both pathetically underpowered. Just what the situation called for.Two of my teenage cousins died in a single car accident reportedly caused by another car driven by other teenagers. I remember how I was driving when I was younger. Completely oblivious to the risks I was surrounded by. Although lightning may be slightly safer for your son, it is a deadly weapon to others. I highly recommend something underpowered for his first car. I never tried anything stupid with my Frontier (140 hp) because I simply would look stupid trying. When I floored it, it would just get louder with no noticeable difference in speed. That is a perfect first car for a teenager.
