What Level 2 charger do you recommend

New owner of a WR Lariat here. So I’m planning on running a 220v 60 amp breaker for 48 amp charging. What do you guys think is the best charger option. I can get the ford pro station for about 500$ off FB. What would be some other option.

Charge station pro is a little annoying because of the CCS adapter and having to flip down the DC pin cover. Universal Tesla Wall Connector would be my recommendation.

Tesla Universal Wall Connector would be my choice for a truck with 48A onboard charging.

Lots of good options...

I have an Emporia EVSE installed on my wall (love it) that can deliver 48A max charge rate. But I never seem to need to charge at 48 amps. It turns on at midnight at 24A and the truck is ready to go when I wake up. Yes, if you've run your battery down really, really low then you'll need more than 8 hours @24A to get back to 100% state of charge (SOC). But most of us practically never do that. Don't get too hung up on that max rate of charge unless it's really that important to your use case.

I’ve a CP HomeFlex on a 50 amp breaker charging at 40 amps. I’ll probably upgrade the wiring/breaker in the future and kick the charging amps up. Currently it adds about 9kw/20 miles an hour and puts 30-40 KW back in the truck in 4-5 hours. We don’t have off peak rates but if you did, charging from 12 midnight to say 5 am might be worth it and charge at a higher amperage. The HomeFlex has worked great the last 18 months. I positioned it in the garage so we can also charge the Mach E if need be.

No issues with my CP HomeFlex (40A on a 50A breaker). I have solar panels plus TOU rates. I typically run 16-24A during the day to stay under my panel output. I can adjust the amps in the CP app to align to solar curve and use the target settings in FP app to stop/start as needed. I have mine setup to auto charge off-peak. However, I don't always charge overnight if I don't need it and have a sunny day the next day. I work from home so do more driving on weekends and have the following week to charge back up. Will now need to rework my garage for 2 EVs, one being the truck that barely fits.

Check with your power company. They often offer subsidized chargers. I got mine for about half MSRP. See what choices if any they offer, let us know and we’ll help pick between them.

Further, avoid EnelX/Juicebox chargers. The company went bankrupt. While the chargers are fine as dumb chargers, the connectivity and app could go offline any day, since some other company is keeping their servers going.

I would second the suggestion to check with your power company. They may be able to offer discounted electricity for charging with some chargers that they support.

Outside of that, I really like the Emporia. Comes in J1772 or Tesla versions. I am assuming either version could charge the other type of vehicle with the appropriate adapter (but you should confirm that if that is something you need). I just have the J1772 version for my Lightning.

I like that it integrates with my Emporia home electrical usage monitor. Also cheaper than the Tesla universal charger.

I love my classic Grizzl-E! Its the only EVSE I have found to be fully enclosed in metal. IMO, in case of a fire on the unit, it will be fully contained and keep my home safe. I have one year of use on my current one and it works like a champ.

EDIT: I now regret browsing their website. I saw they have a new 80 amp charger, and I want it so bad . My Christmas gift might be upgrading my wiring and buying it....:crackup:

after 50,000 miles over two years, I've used everything from the simple 120v option with the Ford Mobile charger, a 20amp 240v EVSE we've had for several years of Nissan Leaf ownerships, the 30amp 240v option with the Ford Mobile charger, and a EVgreen 30amp 240v ADJUSTABLE EVSE.... all do exactly the same thing - charge your truck battery.
Generally, there's no big hurry to most everyday overnight charging, although it might 'seem' that you need more than that... 30amp 240v is the norm, but some will expect more. 99% of my charging for all my miles is from home, from the Ford Mobile charger - it works.
