That's exactly the point. A private business owner should be able to do whatever the hell they want to do. Public property I am genuinely indifferent and even might say these politicians have a point. But if someone owns a restaurant and wants to give free charging and charge $1 per glass of tap water to pay for that, they can do whatever they want.
Make those lousy EV drivers pay to use the bathroom...put them in their place.

There are absurd bills proposed all the time. It's political theater. The sponsors of this bill have a better chance of getting struck by lightning than this actually becoming law. It is sad however to see even a minute's worth of time wasted on stuff like this but Big Oil has deep roots.

They were floating a bill in Kansas that would have made it practically impossible to build any new wind generators. Kansas is home to the Koch brothers and a big oil producer.

I’m not about to read the whole bill but i agree with the point that the government shouldn’t be giving away free charging at taxpayer expense on government operated infrastructure.
As far as adding regulation to private businesses, they can kindly feck off.

This is absurd.... I am embarrassed to have grown up and gone to college in NC after seeing this.

I mean this legislation deals with private businesses. Businesses always provide free "perks" to entice you to come in or partake in services and they don't apply to everyone.

What about a hotel that offers free breakfast..should they be forced to offer lunch for all the non breakfast eaters?

What about bars that offer the peanuts(or pretzels)..should they have to offer chips for the "non" pretzel eaters of the world...

If a business wants to offer free charging to woo customers, they should be able to do so.

Most “destination” chargers are free. It’s a perk to get people to visit somewhere.
isn't the business covering the cost of the electricity? clearly i dont understand what this is about...

Government gives away lots of "free" services at the taxpayer expense. In the same location as the chargers, they also have a parking spot (paid for by the Gov't). Why should people who drives cars get free things. What about those that walk or ride a bike.

Why should they provide a bathroom? I mean.. what about those of us that don't have to go! Why should I pay for it.. those people should just go to the bathroom at home.

Geez...

Don't even get me started on water fountains! Make the kids buy bottles or bring their own like the rest of us!

Slight difference in that the parking spot is a one time expense and the electricity would be a continuously recurring one. Around here we have ChargePoint EVSEs in government owned locations. The government entity paid for the installation, but the user pays for the electricity through their CP account at cost. 11c/kWh. Sounds fair to me.

People should get perks for paying our taxes

Nothing the Gov "gives away" is free. We all pay taxes so we are paying for it. They decide how to use it. They can spend it anyway they decide if you agree or not. Law makers are bought for by big money and thats where the issues come in. Until it ilegal to buy law makers by lobby groups nothing will change.

I don’t mind the Ban of Free Charging stations using Government money, if the business wants to provide it then that is on them.

But again like everything else it’s one way or the other nothing in between like…. We will ban free charging but find a way to discount Charger Installations and chargers for people…. Work with solar companies to provide homes Solar at a low cost…. Nope it’s always nothing

It’s pretty simple, they should be providing the infrastructure and services strictly required to perform the given function of the entity. Parking spaces and bathrooms are required. Free charging is not. I don’t have a problem with them installing chargers and charging customers the cost to provide the service without profit.
