I may be out…. 280 mile range for platinum disappoints me. Dropping to lariat I cannot get max recline seats as an option or unleashed sound system. Maybe the 2023 version will allow these options. Ugh.
Thats only 252 on daily basis charging to 90%

Hi all: just two tidbits of new or confirmed information I took away from Livestream:

...
...

This was from their charging Livestream, they will have 3 or 4 more Livestreams through December to talk about more features.
Pardon some ignorant questions: How did we miss that there was a livestream event? Was it not something open to the public? Was it recorded and viewable later?

Thanks in advance!

You'll probably hit the 300 mile range if you swap the stock rims out with 20" rims.

Hi all: just two tidbits of new or confirmed information I took away from Livestream:

1. They are targeting 280 EPA range for platinum trim. This was expected due to footnotes, but range was never stated.

2. Backup power seems to require sunrun to not just install but to buy their "home integration system".

This was from their charging Livestream, they will have 3 or 4 more Livestreams through December to talk about more features.
Ford partnering with SunRun for the home backup power was known from the start.

I'm not sure where they put this information out at, I found out about the LiveStream on Reddit 2 day ago.

This is the page where the livestreams will happen when they are scheduled:

https://www.ford.com/support/vehicle/2022/Ford/F150-Lightning/discover-your-ford/livestream/

I thought it was odd that this wasn't emailed out to everyone (no indication it was emailed to anyone).

Also odd that they aren't doing it on YouTube.

The Unleashed system isn't that good. Don't base your decision on that.

The range was estimated at 300. Now that it is 280, you're out? Because it's 20 miles less? That tells me you were never IN. I hope you had an early res so I can move up the list

How many times per year do you drive more than 280 miles on a single trip?

I stand corrected then and need to pay closer attention to the footnotes. Most of the talk seemed to be that Ford was being conservative with the range estimates. Wonder how many potential Platinum buyers read the footnote and understood that for a whole lot more money, they'd be getting a little less range.

Too many on the forums/reddit took the random YouTuber range estimates as a fact and really attempted to bend reality to fit their hopes and dreams of a 400 mile Truck. Unfortunately, not this generation -- batteries are too expensive for a price point Ford is trying to reach.

The reality is 300 is the best possible scenario for range where it matters (freeway). However, expect less on the freeway, so you don't get disappointed later. EVs are very sensitive so aero factors, so the bigger wheels that many higher trim levels get on EVs end up with lower range. Another example is Ioniq5 which also looses 20 miles in range going from 19 inch to 20 inch wheels

What is it about bigger wheels that impacts range? More rotational inertia to overcome? I'm confused. Those 22" rims actually look more sleek than the 18 or 20" versions that come stock - surely it's not an aero thing.

Along those lines, could I expect a range bump if I were to opt for the XLT with 18" rims over the XLT Premium with 20" rims? I like the look of the 20s, but I would like more range from the 18s better if that's the case.

I saw minimal impact on range from switching to a larger heavier wheel. Maybe 1-2 miles…… granted this was on an EV sedan and not a truck.

So there's gotta be something else contributing to the Platinum's 7% drop in range... Tires? Weight? Better climate control?

Wheels are part of its, extra weight for all of the options is part of it, extra power draw for those "extras" (i.e. messaging seats, power running boards etc.) that are options on lower trims is part of it. Lots of little things that add up.

I mean, 280 isn't terrible but it's not very exciting either. The Hummer EV won't be much more expensive than a Platinum and is going to have >350 range.

Also, it's still a "target", actual EPA will hopefully be more and won't necessarily be 20 miles less than the other trims. Ford needed to build in some range reduction factor for the 22" wheels, who knows if 20 miles is based on data or just a WAG.

The price competitive hummer truck (lowest end trim at $80k) is only 250 miles. It also isn't available until 2024. You need to go the next step up ($90k) to get 300+ miles.

Yes 300 was a critical minimum and I expected someone to make a snarky reply to my post. Each of us has a minimum range wanted and mine was 300. I understand your point. However the points about switching wheels out I hadn’t considered….
