Those after delivery *and* drove an EV before, what's missing or could be improved?

I have no intention of using Phone as a Key. My office has a similar system to enter the building after hours and I do not like it.
My understanding is that if you setup Paak you can use the keypad to get into the truck and a pin on the main display to start and drive the truck. On my last f150 I used to lock the key inside with the keypad most of the time. Paak is just the next step. My Tacoma requires actually inserting and turning the key that I have to bring with me whenever I am on the bike/boat/hiking/running. If much rather remember a 5 digit code for the keypad.

While I used the keypads since my 2004 F150 SCREW back in the day to lock and unlock my vehicles, I much prefer the old fashioned chipped key with a remote to start the vehicle rather than keyless entry and start. I know that I am behind the times and that a new car with a traditional chipped key is well - an endangered species!

With all due respect, I think that there are some features on BEVs that are in common with features on ICE vehicles - such as the comments made by @beatle and I regarding vehicle locking. Those should be fair game irrespective of whether or not the experience is related to a BEV, a hybrid or an ICE vehicle.
And the post you quoted says that I believe they're ok to post - so I'm confused at you believing that I think they're not fair game?

The point of my post was simple:

  • Share good experiences with other EV's that should be part of the Lightning, because Ford is gaining steam with its EV lineup and is still missing several key features necessary for EV driving. This is why I called for it to be EV-focused.
  • Don't share troll comments or items that are not applicable to an EV-based pickup.
  • And if there are things missing that are present in other vehicles, they're okay to discuss in good faith. However, candidly, Ford has probably considered all these other non-EV features before in comparing their more traditional lineups.
So, no ill will from me on the topic.

Thank you. Sometimes the problem with texts, emails and forum posts is that intent and tone can be misconstrued since there is not a face-to-face conversation.

There are some things that we just don't get and understand until we've tried them. I am guilty of being a naysayer of OPD - One Pedal Driving and PAAK - Phone as a key. Ford has done a decent job of the OPD, coming from Tesla it is easy to adapt even though it is implemented different, but I am seriously missing my PAAK.

The remote is clumsy and sometimes the door unlocks when I put my hand in the handle and sometimes it doesn't. Of course, we know it never locks back on its own like it is supposed to unlock.

I seriously look forward to driving the truck, but having to deal with the remote, unlocking, the start/stop button, it just almost kills the experience before I get it into drive.

I also think I may have a real problem - more than half the time after starting, I put my foot back on the brake and it doesn't want to come out of park. It takes a couple of attempts. It just isn't smooth. I'm hoping for some serious SW updates to tweak these things and get the PAAK working.

I have had a bunch of F150s and they all had that problem with unlocking quickly when you put your hand on the handle. I think I was just doing it way too fast, I found that if I put my hand on the handle and just wait ever so briefly that it works every time.

I'll keep trying, but I thought I'd been giving it more than enough chance to unlock before I pulled. It just seems like nothing.

For those who have never seen Tesla's app - here is what the clear and concise experience looks like:

Main screen:

Talking about this, can you pre cool the Lightning like we can on the Tesla?

Yes, by using the "start" button in the fordpass app. It only allows the truck to run for 15 mins, you can extend by 15 mins at a time.

I will take what I can get. Glad they didn’t put that behind a paywall like PAAK.

You only get 30 minutes total on the remote start and then you must physically start the truck to continue.

The PAAK is not paywalled, just delayed. I'm not sure what they couldn't get working since it is working on the MachE - or at least implemented, maybe it doesn't work very well.

We should have a SW update late summer that enables PAAK.

One thing I've actually found somewhat useful in these extreme temperatures lately is that the truck doesn't automatically turn off when you leave - it stays running with the HVAC maintaining the temperature for a period of time (I think 30 minutes). On my Tesla I would often tap the HVAC temperature and then tell it to "keep climate active" while I run a quick errand. I always had to be precise with my taps or the system would think I was changing temperatures. With the Lightning I just get out and the HVAC stays on - no thinking involved. Of course that sword cuts in both directions, so I will need to remember to hit the start button when ambient temperatures are comfortable and/or I'm trying to reduce excess energy consumption, but I think the Lightning does have an advantage here that I originally thought was a complete disadvantage.

Would be nice if it turned down the stereo to a certain level when you open the door, however. I tend to listen to music a little loud and it was nice not having to turn it down when getting out of the car.

PAAK is one thing I can see the use case for, but just does not fit into my life. I am not allowed to bring my phone into work, so I have to leave it locked in my car every day. Makes PAAK completely useless and does the same for remote start from the app, at least for my drive home.

Key fob it is! Glad Ford is still providing them.

Isn’t PAAK only available on certain trims? I know it was on the Lariat and Platinums
