This ^^ is correct.

Another reason why I don't stress with the GOM.

I leave my screen in calm mode so all I see is a "fuel gauge" without all the extra information I don't need.

As others have said, the GOM is actually a Stress-O-Meter (SOM) for some...

Great advice. And, yes, the Calm Mode is great. I'm going to leave it there. And I'm going to start to think in terms of "half a tank" vs "90 miles".

GOM is equivalent to your phone telling you how many hours of usage you have left without know whether you are going to be streaming video or reading an ebook. Virtually everyone owns a smartphone at this point and people inherently understand what SOC means when it comes to battery operated devices. The only thing they need education on is what behaviors burn battery faster. The auto companies are scared to actively state that battery usage goes up 25% when you drive fast or it gets cold out because they think it will scare customers away so instead they come up with a ā€œGOMā€ so they donā€™t have to tell people that their range drops 30% in the winter.

For background purposes, I drove from Lake Tahoe, California to Missoula, Montana in mid September, round trip. Upon return, I parked it and drove it once from Lake Tahoe to the SF Bay Area to my office, and back to my parents house (2 hours from office) where it is parked and waiting for my next trip to the office. No freezing temps during any of this. It doesnā€™t look good! Iā€™m not worried, because if something is wrong, itā€™s under warranty.

I was driving an average of 65-70 miles per hour on these trips.

Most definitely!

Not worried about it, until I can look into it during fair weather. It just started getting to freezing temperatures where I am, so I will have to wait until Spring to figure things out. Those numbers you are seeing on the screenshot, were all with fair to warm weather, driving at 65-70.

It's doing what a standard-range battery is doing. I paid 10K more for an extended range, so it's a problem that I will look into next spring.

Who promised you 320?

The representation is that the combined City/Highway range operating the truck using EPA standards is 320 miles. It breaks out the ER battery highway range as 283.1 miles and 350.2 city miles (driven according to EPA protocols). The testing standards may suck, but they do serve as a benchmark to compare EVs.

Ford promised. And mine is no where near those numbers. I am not getting anywhere near 283.1 on the highway. I'm not even getting 283.1 in the city!

Oh no here we go again and again..

Repeats itself over the years I have had EVs...

Hate to break it to you but there is absolutely nothing wrong that Ford has done regarding range.

EPA estimates are just that - estimates based on cycle testing fixed test protocols.

Ford or any other EV manufacturer NEVER promised range or miles per charge.

I have for years have been trying to educate those that claim they were misled, lied to by the dealer, or the manufacturer is at fault...

If you think you should get more miles, then this EV is not for you.

We'll have to agree to disagree. When the truck cannot meet even the lowest estimate, there's a problem.

Yes, agree to disagree....

It's not a problem with the design, manufacture, or advertising - it's more about the variables of the driver, climate, weather, terrain, and speed.

My situation I get MORE miles per charge than the EPA - should I get upset ?
I get 25% or more range than EPA's estimate - should I sue Ford for that ?

If you look at the overall average of every Lightning out there - the average will hover near the EPA estimates.

If it makes you feel better, hire a vehicle testing company and have them run different EPA cycle tests on your Lightning - bet it will perform as advertised....

But it does meet it under the conditions that the estimate is made. Iā€™ve regularly seen 320-340 mile range in mixed driving with mostly highway. Even long range highway trips have been 260-290 miles. I donā€™t use the range estimate in the truck, i base that on the actual miles traveled per kwh. Of course in short stints itā€™s been much less than 300 at times because the conditions were poor, or i was driving fast or using a lot of HVAC. Still, in the long run my average per full charge is over 300 miles in 5,000 miles of driving.

What are the reasons you get more than the estimate?
