So today after returning home, I opened my front trunk using the button under the hood and it operated just fine. I removed some stuff and then went to close it and after pushing the button, nothing happened. I thought that was very weird, so then I went to push the button on the fob. Nothing. I then went into the cab and pushed the button on the dash. Nothing. I thought maybe even though it'd been at most 2 minutes since opening the trunk that it had "timed out" and had to be manually cycled like when the frunk is left open for more than 30 minutes. I slowly pushed it down, but when I got to the latch, the pull down motor did not engage. This is when I realized something was very wrong.

First thing that came to mind was a blown fuse so after looking through the manual, I learned there was a fuse in the under hood fuse box and in the body control fuse box in the cab.

I checked both for continuity with a multimeter and removed them for a visual inspection. They were fine.

I then thought maybe somehow the emergency release had been pressed, but even after manually cycling the hood down and pushing it closed manually, it wouldn't function. I had to use the emergency release cable to open the hood.

The last thing I tried was to disconnect the 12V battery to see if maybe it would reset a module that had faulted out for some reason. This didn't change anything either, unfortunately.

The only clue I have is the very quiet sound of a relay clicking near the underhood fuse box when the button is pushed, but nothing else happens.

I already have an appointment at the dealer this Friday for something else so I'll be bringing it in, but anyone have any tips, ideas or theories??

This is just so frustrating as it was perfectly functional one second and dead the next!

Wasn't there an issue with Lightnings and water infiltration into a connector for the lift/close actuators?

It might be that you have been affected by this problem or there is something altogether different causing the failure.

Hmmm I will say today is actually the first day I've driven it in the rain, although it was hardly heavy, it was more like a very mild drizzle and when I had the underhood side sight panels off I didn't see any visible water intrusion...

Do you know where the connectors are located so I can inspect them and maybe dry them out and seal them better?

No, but do some search of the forum threads, might turn something on the subject

I wish they had this completely mechanical in Pro and eliminated the stupid folding stick. There is only so much convenience and luxury one man can handle.

That’s correct tax man. Mine failed less than a month after delivery. ford engineer confirmed water in the connector of the strut. Only difference with mine was that it would give 4 long beeps with not movement

Ahh that makes sense. I disabled my beeper unit so that explains why I don't hear anything, I imagine it's trying to beep at me. C

onsidering up until now I've never really driven the truck in rain, only light snow well below freezing, that could very well be the issue.

I'm definitely gonna try and see if I can access the connectors and inspect them. I'll have to try and work on it tomorrow and see if I can locate the connectors.

But would the latch pull down motor still activate if you manually pulled the hood down to the near closed position?

Not sure it helps other than solace, but mine failed after a week of ownership. The dealer had to fiddle with resetting it to get it to work again and it has been fine since. As you say there, my latch motor at least made noise though, your problem might be different.

It did the very first time it gave me trouble. After that nothing.

Maybe I'm number 5, I'm outside Pittsburgh... got mine at Cochran Natrona Heights
Mine will be visiting Pittsburgh later this week - see you guys around!

As far as the wet connectors, I have driven and parked mine in the rain lots of times and no issues. Even operated the Frunk in the rain with no issues.

Yep. You make 5. But one was a work truck for a roofing company.
got mine from Shults Harmarville.
Not sure if I'm counted in this number. I got a pro delivered from Shults Wexford last week. I've seen a grey lightning on McKnight a couple of times.
With the kind of weather we get here, the frunk issue has me worried. If this is a big one, I hope a recall is issued and the actual issue is resolved. Pretty happy with my purchase so far.
