2023 F-150 Lightning Lariat ER
Approx. 1 month of ownership and I rear ended someone. It was wet, my shoes were wet. I was behind another truck waiting for the lights and I decided to reach back and grab the tissue box on the back seat. As I reached back, my foot slipped and hit the accelerator pretty hard. Truck had no chance to warn me. In my ICE truck, my foot would be on the brake. With 1-Pedal drive, I am now used to just hovering my foot on the accelerator. Not an excuse by any means as it's totally my fault.

No injuries to either party, thankfully, just a massive blow to the ego.

Insurance is going to cover the repairs however the body shop told me that the parts are hard to come by and I will likely have to wait weeks, if not months. In the meantime, the truck is drivable. As you can see it's mostly cosmetic from what I can tell (no frame damage).

While I am still able to drive the truck, my ACC/pre-collision/Blue Cruise is no functional because the sensor is dangling by the harness. The sensor itself is fine. The bracket that holds it is busted. Does anyone have access to the shop manual and maybe able to share the diagram with the part # of the bracket? I would like to use ACC/Blue Cruise, if I can secure the sensor to the back bracket (the plastic pieces are busted so it won't snap in place).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm glad everyone is OK. Maybe you can ask the shop to remove the frunk beeper when they replace the bumper--that would at least be a silver lining.

I almost lost control of my truck last night in one pedal drive. There's no need to stop to shift into reverse (no transmission), I was being cute and would roll into reverse, well, if you do that too quick the truck won't let you and it's almost like it was in neutral and when I took my foot off, it did nothing so I panic slammed the brake. No one was near me nothing was damaged but it was still embarrassing that being dumb coulda had me jump a curb or hit a parking sign.

Edit: surprised the collision prevention let you. I had it trigger once backing up faster than it liked with shrubs along the parking spot and it jammed the brakes for me. Granted it was just a bush and wasn't even going to touch the truck.

I think my lesson is stop backing up too quickly.

I think the truck just didn't have time. When my foot slipped it slammed on the accelerator. I have noticed the reverse issue and it does go into neutral. I learnt that over the last 3 weeks so I'm cognizant of that now. I just have to make sure to tell myself that the brake pedal is there as I rarely use it now. In fact, I was driving my wife's SUV and almost forgot how to use the brake pedal.

Sometimes you might get lucky with a new seonsor and itll work plug and play, but having to recalibrate the sensors is the pain in the butt!
You can probably look up the part on the Lakeland ford parts website. I've had success there.

My truck was hit in the back in August but wasn't able to get fixed until January because collision shops were so backed up. They got the parts and had it ready in a week. So if you work with a collision shop that deals with Ford directly you may luck out and get them quickly. Make sure you get in writing that you want OEM replacement parts so they don't get away with third party crap where they are able to.

I’m no expert, but I would not try to cobble something together to enable anything that relies on the sensors in the front of the vehicle. Most of that stuff requires precise calibration and if it did work, I wouldn’t trust it. On a similar note, some body shops may not even let you drive the vehicle if they had it in their procession and there is any damage to the safety systems as it opens them up to liability issues.
My Lightning was hit in the rear passenger side just before Thanksgiving and I’m still waiting on parts. Luckily it is fully functional and drivable or I would have been without it for months. I hope your parts are more available than mine have been!

Reverse brake assist and forward collision avoidance are totally different….as you’ve discovered!

I definitely want to make sure they put OEM parts. Good tip.

Pre-collision requires speed over 3mph. Likely never registered the speed.

Don't you have auto-hold on? I always drive 1-pedal mode and with auto-hold I just move my foot to the floor when I come to a stop. Unless you do jackrabbit starts after every stop no need to be holding your foot over a pedal.

I wasn’t on the pedal. I reached back to grab the tissue box and it was a full stretch. My foot slipped because my shoes were. Raining like cats and dogs today and the foot slipped on the winter mats right on the pedal. Bad luck.
