I don't think all the bugs have been worked out yet.

My testing and exploring was sitting in the garage connected to Wifi. I think it will be interesting to see the speed and how it responds over the cellular connection.

I was connected to WiFi. And the cell network was communicating too. You can see the icons in the upper right.

Yup the lack of updates is terrible on my 23' XLT and when they do kick the can my way it fails 15 time before installing. Haven't had an update since June. It doesn't help that when I went in for my 10k service (inspection) appointment I was told they can't push/install updates on my vehicle and I have to wait and be patient 😆😆😆

FAILURE!
Well, I forced my car to navigate to an EVgo charger.
it did not become available to activate via the NAV. So I went to the Charge Assist app and it showed it there, but the buttons were in gray, and so even though I was plugged in I couldn’t activate it from the truck.
So I decided to try an Electrify America and drove up here. So I decided to try a Electrify America and drove up here. Same deal. I had plug and charge turned off and I could not get it to activate from the screen. So I had to turn on plug and charge again. And it started automatically but none of the buttons were green either in the truck so I don’t think the app is quite ready to go

I have tried this out and it just seems to make everything harder, especially with the unreliability of charging currently. When you try to use this, you have to keep getting in and out of the truck to plug in , attempt to start, fail, unplug, rinse and repeat as many time as needed until it actually starts. Much easier to just stay out of the truck and use your phone.

In addition, you don't get any of the charging stats or status on Fordpass, so you have to be in/near the truck to see how things are going vs. the EA or EVgo app that lets you go to the bathroom or grab a snack or whatever and still monitor things.

I guess this is useful for those who want an EV but don't want or use a smartphone. I am glad it exists for those folks, but I don't see myself ever using it on a regular basis.

Wouldn't it be great if it estimated the charging cost for you? Based on your charging needs/settings, "KwH needed x Cost per KwH" or "Estimated time needed x Cost per Minute".

It's also no good for people who have the EA pass to get discounted rates.

Similarly, I had to turn off Plug+Charge because then I'd have to pay full price vs activating through the EA app.

That is horrible that a dealer cannot force the update through Fordscan either. If Ford is going to be a serious EV player as they plan, they need to figure out how to manage software updates.

Mine is going in for the battery module software update one Monday and one of the things they are also looking at is an electrical “short” like sound in the information display when I am mainly using CarPlay. Such a weird thing as it can happen when using the volume nob or adjusting the fan speed🤷‍♂️.

anyway, as I mentioned to my daughter there is a possibility of this already being fixed in the current release of Sync 4 but since I can’t force the update I get to waste a tech’s time and Ford’s warranty money 😢

I leave plug and charge on because it sometimes works when the EA app doesn't. Just activate through the app first before you plug in and you get the reduced rate.

Got my truck mid-July. I've never received an update and this app is not showing on my truck either. When home, the truck is always connected to Wi-Fi, within 20' of the router.

UNFORTUNATELY...

what I've realized today... this is NOT an app you can use while 'in motion'....

FORD, are you listening????? Why in the WORLD would you not be able to access simple information about DC Fast Charging on a simple screen, while 'in motion'??

here's your proof: 1mile per hour defaults to the 'sorry' screen: crazy.
Ford F-150 Lightning New Charge Assist App Function / Feature is Out! new charge APP screen

But is it hard wired via Ethernet??? 😂😂😂 If I wasn't part of the forum I wouldn't have any idea there's been any updates and I'm guessing that's fine by Ford sadly

If it was an option, it would be! 😎 All my TVs, routers, and many other devices are. I'd happily plug it in once in a while if that would help.
