I looked at the Tesla Tap Lightning adapter, but it was $319.95. The 80amp version, not labeled Lightning, is $299.95. Owner said that the Lightning one is different, I think he shouldn't play games like that.

For me, that is too much given the alternative I listed above.

The TeslaTap doesn't have the bottom connector needed to do DC Fast Charging, which is what a SuperCharger is.

I picked up an 80A Tesla Tap 2 years ago for my Mach-E, but I've still never used it. I still keep it under my seat in case I travel somewhere that only has Tesla Destination Chargers (which are AC).

I'm looking forward to finally getting an "Official" adapter that can also do DC Fast Charging.

For what it's worth, I also keep a few AC adapters under my seat in case I need to plug into an RV charging outlet at a camp site.

Both the adapters I referred to are AC charging only. One costs 3x the other.

The official adapter will likely be only DC fast charging as others have noted.

You cannot charge a non-Telsa, today, at any station that doesn't have Magic Dock, and initiation has to be done through the Tesla app. Ford's deal will allow FordPass and Plug and Charge to be used.

There are been a large number of manufacturers that have announced deals after Ford. GM, Honda, Volvo, Hyundai, Rivian, Mercedes-Benz, ...
I guess if you can't build a good EV, build the infrastructure and sell that instead :)

That adaptor hasn't been approved. None have.

Agreed, never said it was. I am saying if you watch the video you will learn they are WORKING on it and they are not approved yet.

Sorry, I've been living under that hunk of granite over there as this is the first time I've seen anyone mention that. Is it just speculation? I'm just going on very basic knowledge but it seems like an adapter for both should be possible, no? Is there a complication to designing an adapter for both AC and DC?

Yes, there is. The DC adapter is a straight through connector with no intelligence / circuitry. Basically pin A on Tesla connects to pin A in a different spot on CCS.

The Tesla adapters for destination chargers have to sync with the charger (takes about 30 seconds), and then be plugged into the car. They have some type of circuitry / chip inside them.

In addition to what Rick stated, the adapter would need to have the hardware built in to it to switch (500A capability!) the NACS input pins to the correct CCS/J1772 pins depending on whether AC or DC were applied on the NACS side. I really doubt a universal model would be practical. 2 separate adapters will will likely cost less and take up less storage space than a single, universal one.

NACS is already capable of switching between AC and DC, that's part of the reason why it is the superior hardware design. To my untrained mind, it seems plausible that this tech can be leveraged to route electrons to the correct CCS pins. Not arguing that the simple route is the superior route, just speculating out loud.

Tesla put the switching logic and hardware is in the car, not the plug. But yes, you can do almost anything for a price.
