If I were spending $90k-$100k on a truck, the only option that makes sense is the highest trim CT. The Platinum F-150 genuinely doesn't make sense to me.

With that out of the way, if I was spending $60k on a truck, you'd have to be insane to buy a CT, the Lightning blows it away. Since this is where more shoppers sit in terms of budget, it seems like Lightning should continue to be a mass market leader. Hopefully the next gen Ford EV truck doesn't stray too far from the lower trim Lightnings, it is a great product.

The only thing that will likely sway this commentary is years on the market. I potentially would've had an ER if i bought my truck today, versus my SR 2022 at launch. The deals on Lightning now make it the best time ever to buy, unicorn 2022 Pros aside. Tesla has dropped their S/X models by $30k recently. If the CT follows this trend five years down the line and the Cyberbeast is $70k, it will be unbeatable. But that's pure speculation and what I see now is a truck that only beats competition if you're spending $100k.

Which is why I say Ford will come up with something to get close to the Cyberbeast in terms of performance. A different trim much like the Flash.

Or they could hook us up and give us a Lightning R mode range be dammed :ROFLMAO:

But as far as the normal people Model goes you will have to drive both back to back in order to decide. The Air Suspension is nice in the CT, graphics in the center screen, retractable tonneau and apparently steering is nice too.

Other than that the Lightning has everything else above it IMO.

The lightning doesn’t have room for a larger rear motor because it has a full size spare. Cybertruck missed this point and offers an in bed spare option which most won’t take because its tires are too heavy for most of its prospective customers to lift, not to mention you’d have to crawl into the bed to get to it, which is why the f150 tailgate step was a must have for me, even being 6’1”. The fact is cybertruck is a car with a bed, not a truck. There’s a reason trucks haven’t changed shape in 70+ years but cars have.

I do wonder how high you can set the CT to drive at highway speeds? I almost bought a Model S because air suspension, but it can only lift to a height I need for winter snow clearance when driving at very low speeds (15mph?). Can I drive down the highway at 75mph in a CT with my suspension lifted? Or is it only at low speeds like a S? I understand it's not optimal to ride so high, but I want the option when conditions call for it.

I'd buy one for any 1 of 3 reasons.

1. Everyone is going to want to talk to you. I'm a contractor. Good for business. Love the truck or hate it, who cares, its polarizing and draws people in.

2. Turo. Rent that bitch out. Make money. Sell in 1 year.

3. Its a giant Powerwall. Install Tesla solar w/ a single gateway and Powerwall for pretty cheap compared to pretty much every other solar company out there. Now I get cheap charging, peak demand shaving, outage protection....

But then, plug in my truck. Now I have the output of an additional Powerwall when my truck is home, plus the storage capacity of 11 Powerwalls (ish, didnt look at the pack size). The fact that its simple and works is a giant FU to the botched Ford/Delta/Sunrun implementation.

Yeah, that's also one thing I skipped over. I have a Tesla PW and Solar, it would be just plug and play.

I'm still waiting for word from enphase for their charging / solar solutions as I already have iq8+s on my roof. Would be nice to have some off grid capability.

I see those crash pictures and laugh "Exoskeleton, my a$$"
While the truck is certainly totaled, so would have been a Lightning or any other vehicle. CT actually looks to have handled
It amazingly well. Im betting CT once again wins the best ever IIHS crash test scores for Tesla. Exoskeleton? Yeah that went bye bye long ago. The steel is much thinner than originally planned. I think they had to unless they wanted CT to be a tank that just destroys any other vehicle it collides with. Wish they would drop the exoskeleton marketing gimmick…. Then again, it’s kinda fittingly silly.

1. It sends a message that you're willing to look past Elon's antisemitism. I'd avoid it for any business use on that basis alone. Not all attention is good attention.

2. Rental car companies are dropping Tesla, because the depreciation is so bad that it breaks their business model. I wouldn't expect to come out ahead in that game. If you think a regular Tesla depreciates badly, wait until you see one that was insured as a rental vehicle.

3. You can already do this with an F150 Lightning. If your idea of an "FU" is giving Elon Musk even more money, knock yourself out.

I've got a 16.8kw array on the roof with SolarEdge inverters. The EV charger that SolarEdge has coming in 2024 allows you to do DC Charging at home and it supports V2G/V2H -- that's going to be my solution. I am lucky to live in a state where net metering is still the law of the land. When we do use power from the grid, our electricity costs the same regardless of the time of day. Our power is also very reliable (years between outages). So, I don't need to be actively using my truck, or anything else, as power storage.

You said it! Elon is taking some criticism for calling it a "car" multiple times on stage. He also referred to it as a "sports car" and "truck". No real truck manufacturer has ever referred to their flagship truck as a sports car.

It's a big unpainted unibody crossover with a bed, the love child of an El Camino and a Pontiac Aztek.

Somehow Elon's presentation skills have regressed, he performed terribly during this reveal. Considering this was years in the making, it shouldn't have been uncomfortable to watch. Say what you will about Farley, but he never looked that bad.

I say all of this as someone who really likes Tesla's products. I just ask for some professionalism too.

The CT will look very interesting wrapped in company logos, where as the F150L is going to just look like another company truck. This will be a great positive if your goal is attention. Total peacock of a truck.

In one of the Youtube reviews, Tesla engineer mentioned Gorilla Glass windshield can still chip, but cracks will not propagate. Based on my latest windshield chip, a chip in front of my eyes that has been filled can still give off a glare and therefore needs replacement. I would think the Cybertruck glass will require some new handling equipment for auto glass companies.

Does it bother anyone not to be able to reach over the side to grab something from the bed? Those tall sloping sides on the bed just seem to be a hassle. Must be other ways to trick airflow around beds and camper shells to maximize aerodynamics.
