Dropped off today to fix some sunroof issues but SA said they would take care of the other two recalls also.

I ordered the replacement part from Tasca to do it myself since it should be pretty straightforward mechanically and dealers with 2 hours of me are months out for service.

Question to anyone who knows; is a BMS reset required after this replacement or will the truck figure it out on its own?

I would expect the OP attachments would say, I don’t have time to check them, did you have a look? I imagine it can’t hurt, but could be wrong.

My plan is to disconnect the existing battery, put it on a charger and bring it up to a full charge.

Install the revised BMS.

Run the BMS reset procedure, retrain the Frunk & front windows which might forget their positions.

The truck will lose it's perspective of the LVB prior usage cycles and the SOH value may be compromised, but hopefully I can get a couple more years on the H3 before I swap it out for an aftermarket battery.

The alternative, replace the LVB with a brand new after market version H3 install the new BMS and finish up with the recalibrations.

I just had the part replaced by the mobile tech. Took two minutes. Some notes:
  • The part he installed had the -BA suffix but the box it came it just said -B which is what the instructions said.
  • No need to do BMS reset, it was already reset (it is a brand new part after all). Confirmed with Car Scanner. Prior to replacement my 12V Battery Reset PID was 479 days. After the new part it read 0 days. Note the install instructions in the first post don't mention the need to do the reset either. Tech didn't do any programming.
  • Reminder - you or the tech will have to close frunk manually. Since they remove the negative cable, the frunk is in an unknown state when power is restored.
  • Software version is 06.10 (circled in pic below). Old one (-AC) was 04.50.
EDIT: He wouldn't let me keep the old part which I figured. I would still like to look inside one. For those of you doing this yourself, I would appreciate you sending me the old part. Just DM to work out details.

So, I've been digging a little more. Earlier in the thread I mentioned a huge thread on the 14thGen forum on the BMS. I looked at the video again and the guy showed his 2021 ICE Platinum. Here is the BMS it had:

Exact same Hardware ID (4.11) and Software ID (6.10) as what they are now giving us (see pic of my new one above). Note the ICE one was made in 2020! Will be curious to see what the 2024 models are getting.

I'm guessing the Mxxx-10c652-xx is an older version that is trustworthy and within the specifications our Lightnings DC/DC charging system can work well with. The Nxxx version must have issues .

The dealer had the sensor available and performed the 23B70 today while my truck was in for a HV battery module replacement.
How did you find out you need HV battery module replacement?

Had mine done this morning via mobile service. Not sure if they reset the system? Nothing had changed with the truck. I was expecting to have lost settings if they did that?

Mobile tech replaced mine this morning too and no BMS reset or anything else. I have the Home Assistant plugin setup for my truck and did a refresh right before the sensor replacement and got a 60% 12v charge (11.81v). I refreshed after the replacement was installed and got 41% (11.75v). I hooked up Car Scanner using an OBD bluetooth plug and it agreed with the last reading.

I'm currently charging the 12v up using a battery charger.

EDIT: The LVB wouldn't charge past around 67%. I monitored Car Scanner while charging and could see the 12v current dropping from 8A initially to about 1A or less. The Clore charger showed it was around 95% charged, which explains why the charging current dropped off so low. I removed the charger and let it run for a while, but the 1A current to the LVB continued. I checked that no software updates were running and then did a BMS reset. Afterwards I removed the negative terminal for about a minute then reattached it. I checked Car Scanner again and it showed 93% which was in line with what the Clore showed previously.

Here are pics of the old and new sensors

Mail Call [/Klinger]

Tasca mailed out my order from Cranston RI yesterday morning, USPS delivered my order today!

Ford F-150 Lightning CSP-23B70 Certain 2022-23 F-150 Lightnings - BMS Sensor Replacement 1705080097225

Checked the Software updates to make sure there was no background downloading in process, shut down the truck, checked FORD.COM to see what the LVB SOC was before making the change, it was at 56%.

New BMS was manufactured 10/10/2023
Ford F-150 Lightning CSP-23B70 Certain 2022-23 F-150 Lightnings - BMS Sensor Replacement 1705080374485

Removed the old BMS, cleaned the battery post and negative battery lead to ensure a good contact, reassembled and tightened down the fasteners. Within a couple minutes I heard the HVB contactor engage and heard a coolant circulator fire up, likely the DC/DC converter was active and beginning This is what it shows a couple minutes afterward, being under 40% proves out the need for immediate recharging and why the systems autonomously began to replenish the LVB.

The SOC has risen to 49%+ since then and I am idling [RUN] mode with lights off, break set, doors locked until 1300 hrs

Has anyone had the sensor replaced and noticed a change in behavior with software updates/prior failures to install? I'm getting mine replaced next week, and wondering if there will be any miraculous updates that I finally receive (I'm on 6.4, but a few weeks ago I got the release of 6.2, and still waiting for 6.8 or 6.13).
