This morning I tried to remote start the vehicle. It was 5F outside. The truck was plugged in and when I clicked to turn the climate on the app, the truck would sound the horn 3 timed and the climate command would fail. The app displayed a message saying that it failed to remote start.

When I went out and drove the car, everything worked.

Why would the remote start stop working?

Update: thank you for your replies. So I either started the climate the night before, or the driver door was ajar.

The good thing is that the truck warms up super quick even as this temperature.

These things have a lot of software bugs as far as I can tell.

I started the truck yesterday after I hit the frunk close and it just stopped mid travel.

So answer is who knows lol

I think this is expected behavior. If I try to start the truck with the frunk moving, it will stop and require another command. I imagine it has something to do with the 'ignition' circuit causing power to stop momentarily to the frunk.

As for the OP, it makes me think that possibly your 12V was low due to the cold ambient temperatures. Just a guess, but I know if my 12V gets low it will not want to remote start and will warn you it may not be able to restart if you don't drive it and let it charge. This is just a shot in the dark though, but you could check your 12V status on Fordpass I believe.

You can do 2 remote starts, or one remote start and an extend, before you have to physically remote start.

Remote starts fail if frunk is open, or a warning message is on dashboard.

Was a door possibly ajar? I think the remote start will fail if it cannot lock the truck.

Once I had an episode of horn honks and failure to remote start or might have been departure time start, {I forget}, only thing I had done prior was to open and close the frunk earlier that morning, it fully closed and the doors were fully closed as well, but when the time came later, it resulted in this failure.

I don’t see why it should be expected - why is “on” some big event ? I am sure this wouldn’t happen on a Tesla with a different software / hardware architecture. I’m not sure they even need the “on” button.

I get it that this is new tech on top of old but I believe this is why the weird bugs exist.

I guess you have not seen dead people on the screen when driving by a cemetery… 🤣🤣🤣 by the way, I did. No software is perfect.

I've read this in several posts. Where exactly in the fordpass app or website do you find 12V status? I've checked everything up and down and can't find it. If someone would be kind enough to let me know how to access that info, it would be greatly appreciated.

It's no longer possible, we used the web browser access to our truck account information, this link used to show it, now it shows the HVB traction battery estimated miles of range.

https://www.ford.com/myaccount/?gnav=header-account-targetnav
https://www.ford.com/support/vehicle-dashboard/?gnav=header-account

You will need OBD2 reader to see the 12v SOC

I had a similar situation the other day I put my hand on the door and the dang thing would not unlock. Tried it four or five times!… then I realized the door was ajar just enough that it wasn’t working properly push the door closed completely and then put my hand back on the handle for the fifth time or six time and it opened right up. I mean it was 99.9% closed, but still not 100%… frustrating!
