So I just got module 2 replaced two weeks ago due to a bad cell. They had the truck charged to 100% everything seemed to be working normal. Today I take a 2 hr each way trip. Stop to charge on the way back and I get a charge station fault. There’s a level 2 right beside it I try that and it won’t start either. I try heading to a Chargepoint DC charger and it won’t work either. It was almost 6:00 so I had to just drop it off at a nearby ford dealer go to enterprise to get a car to get home.

Anyone else have this happen? What’s weird is when I open the charge door the lights keep flashing red like it thinks it’s still plugged in. The service writer said it had a lot of error codes the machine wouldn’t clear them so their ev tech would look at it sometime next week.

Thanks all!

I had this happen with my Mach-e while I was traveling away from home. Charge error while trying to DCFC at a BP charge station. I tried all of the resets, rests, different charge stations, and AC charger back at the hotel, but just got charge errors and the red flashing ring of death. It ended up needing a new charge port to fix it.

Thank you! How long did it take to get your charge port replaced? Unfortunately I had to leave mine at a small town dealer It didn’t seem like they did much with EVs

It was a saga... The dealer had a part available, but apparently my car had a new wiring harness and required a new part number. It then took 12 weeks until the proper part with the new harness arrived. This was at a large Seattle-metro area dealer. Supply chains are hopefully better now.

Right now there is no way to tell if you need a new charge port until you get a diagnosis, just sharing what happened with mine. Considering you just had a major repair done, it could be something as simple as the tech forgot to plug something in when finished, or it can be an entirely new unrelated issue.

So my truck has been in the shop for over a week without them even looking at it. I’ve called every day and they keep saying they’ll look at it that day but never do. Unbelievable!

I know many of you have had your truck in service for much longer but is there anyone from ford I can talk to? Can’t run my business without a truck and they won’t give me a loaner. I love my truck but this is so frustrating!! 😡

Being as your at a dealer that can't move any faster than they are, is there another option nearby?

Unfortunately it’s in a rural part of AL the only other dealer nearby ford could tow it to said they couldn’t even look at it for 2 more weeks! And I could have it towed back to my home dealer but the cost was over 700$. Course I may end up paying more in my rental car if they keep taking their time.

That's quite the dealer response 😉

I can't say I'm a fan of the business model where an appointment is merely a place in line for your vehicle to be looked at "when we get to it". Kinda makes appointments pointless in the first place.

If something is "complicated" (like this one) it tends to be put on the back burner rather than made a priority and many times they have one guy who knows anything about EVs and if he's sick or busy changing oil on a Fusion, we'll, then your Lightning won't get looked at.

@Ford Motor Company , it seems a member is in need of some help. Can you offer an assist?

Op, I would see if Ford might ve able to get it moved to an EV friendly dealer. Maybe that isn't close, but it seems a bit of a drive to get your truck fixed is better than no drive to NOT have your truck fixed...

Speaking of business models, maybe @Ford Motor Company should consider forming a team of hot shot technicians who know their stuff, ship them per diem to these dealers to get them caught up, penalty to the dealers earnings reserve for mismanagement to compensate the corporate for having to cover ineptitude .

Let me add a bit of balance to my harsh response above, I appreciate that:
  • Overworked tech's can only do so much in a day
  • Every Ford customer is a priority, not just me.
  • SM's have an unbearable task managing customer expectations.
  • Dealer owners & managers need to recruit & retain capable staff.
  • Supply logistics aren't always in balance with demand.

I didn’t feel that your response wash harsh or unbalanced. Ford Knows that their dealers affect their sales either for positive or negative.

I wasn’t happy when my battery module failed but my service experience was excellent at my home dealer. Made me confident to want to keep the truck.

However there are so many poor ford dealerships out there and if your truck breaks down while on a road trip you’re screwed. That’s a real problem.

A specially trained tech team would be a huge incentive for ev buyers or ones with issues to keep their vehicle. Or even a hotline. Yes they have the BEV hotline I’ve been in contact with them but they seem to lack the power to do much.

As much as I hate it I’m going down Monday and if they still wont even look at it I’m going to drive it to the nearby Chevy dealer and see if they’ll take it on trade for the Silverado EV.

So… just an update as to what’s going on. I went to my home dealer and explained the situation. They were extremely helpful and immediately put me in a gas Ranger loaner.

I ended up paying the 700$ to have it towed there so they could look at it in a timely manner. Being as they put me in a loaner still probably a savings and I can continue to run my business. (Not as easy borrowing my dad’s generator). So that was a huge relief.

They identified it very quickly as a faulty charge port. It’s been about a week and half and they have the new charge port installed. They texted me today to let me know the charge port was installed but it still is not charging. Apparently some more modules are bad. 😔. They are ordering the parts but I don’t have the details yet.

So if my understanding is correct in TN you need 3 consecutive issues with the same part for a buyback would this be the second battery failure if it’s a different module? I’m scratching my head on this truck planned to keep it forever but nervous on out of warranty costs if I should just cut my loss and move on to a different electric truck.

Got my truck back today. Shout out to Cleveland Ford service they were awesome! Turns out it was a defective charge port and a defective onboardcharger module. The module part itself was 5k.

But it’s back in business man I really missed this truck. As soon as I got back in it I remembered that this is the best vehicle I’ve ever had. Hopefully no more service issues though.
