This situation isn’t unique to Iowa. The good news is that the rules are just being rewritten, not canceled so we can reapply when FHWA updates the guidelines.

Rewritten, yes, but current FHWA will likely not release new rules before Jan 20, 2029.

According to Tom's excellent video, Iowa has reached Round 1 so apparently there are "obligated" funds?

Captain Chaos may force the state to use the courts, but "obligated" funds may still be in the works that can't be clawed back.

I get the pessimism, but we’re being told it’ll happen this year. After the public comment period it’ll likely be late this year. I’m guessing things will be postponed until 2026 at the earliest. It’s possible the new rules could remove some of the red tape in the process but I’m not holding my breath.

Some states are also fighting it in court so we’ll see where that goes.

The awards were made in October, but contracts were not signed by the time the feds decertified the plan so Iowa’s deployment is on hold, unfortunately. Iowa is run by republicans who won’t push back against the feds. We play by their rules or we don’t play at all.

WI & MN are a different story, though.

Don't hold you breath for that.
The money will be diverted to tax cuts mostly for the rich as promised by the new administration.

Why do THEY hate EVs so much? There are environmental costs to produce any vehicle but EVs make since in so many areas.

Remember the “”they” you mentioned covers a very large group from people that voted for Trump to the oil companies that see EVs as a threat, to Tesla fan boys that just hate non-Tesla EVs. The reasons are simple; change is scary but hate and being socially irresponsible is fun unless you’re on the receiving end. Life is a struggle and full of opposing forces and that’s never going to end.

I was just scrolling through some trumpie sites yesterday and I learned just how bad EVs are! I didn’t know that they caused cancer, randomly burst into flames, kill thousands every year because they are so heavy and have to have the battery replaced every 2 years. I guess we’re all idiots.
