Motor1 article stated they spoke with someone at ford who stated that the addl range was achieved by making heated seats standard. Did Motor1 get catfished? Or does Pro have a hidden trick up it’s sleeve?

The deleted colors could have been paint supply issues.

But my running theory is that the paint selection department at Ford is just run by someone very boring who is scared of anything exciting.

Yeah I don't buy supply issues at all. I mean, they could steal some blue from the Mustang, some orange from the Escape, some Green from the Bronco and there you go....

Pro has heated seats standard starting with the 2023 model.

@tommolog also mentioned this in his InsidEVs article yesterday. Presumably heated seats are off the 12V battery, reducing the HVAC load on the big battery.

"Currently, F-150 Lightning with the standard range battery has a combined EPA range rating of 230 miles per charge. Ford expects that range rating to increase to 240 miles once EPA range certification is finalized.

"Ford explains it was able to improve the range rating by including heated seats as standard equipment, enabling a reduction in the HVAC load on the battery while maintaining passenger comfort."

The seat heaters would not run be directly off the 12 volt battery as that has the chance of killing the 12 volt battery. Additionally the truck would have to use power from the batter pack to charge the 12 volt. More likely the heated seats draw power from the inverter that supplies the 12 volt system.

The sentence "Ford explains it was able to improve the range rating by including heated seats as standard equipment, enabling a reduction in the HVAC load on the battery while maintaining passenger comfort." means that it takes a lot more energy to heat the air in the cabin than to heat the seats. With heated seats, people accept a cooler air temperature. Also heating the air means a lot more heat (e.g. energy) is loss through the cold glass.

Guess it's time to negotiate a deal to buy a pro mannequin in 6 months.
Where are you going to find a dealer that will sell a 22' with a reasonable ADM now that 23' pricing is out?
I haven't seen a 22' mannequin yet for under $80k.

Logic is seat heaters would have drivers use less cabin heat, which would extend range.

The idea is that in winter, instead of setting cabin temp at 72 degrees, you set the cabin temp to 67ish and use seat heaters for localized heating. It's the same concept as saving on energy by lowering your home's thermostat during winter and using blankets while watching TV.

If they make that approach an operating instruction with it being standard equipment, then logically they can use that approach as the standard cold-weather cabin in their EPA testing.

People like me who dislike the intensity of seat heat will still set the truck at 72 degrees.

No, in summer, you will not use seat heaters. :)

Not sure if I did the math wrong, but im seeing my PRO order with 3 added options(Max tow, Tow Tech, and Tailgate step) will go up a whopping $7805 for the '23 model.

I'm hoping to get in on the order banks for '23 model but not holding my breath.

I find it interesting the price difference from Ford is near exact same as the 7500 tax rebate that will be in the new law. However Im pretty sure the FORD batteries do not have enough % of chemicals sourced from North America so i dont think the lightning will even qualify for the new law. Grrrr.

Your math is correct. That plus rapid red upsell is my 22 pro build and that is the difference when I priced it out. Msrp went up. Some options went up. Plus taxes in CA and all in a 23 is about $8500 more than a 22 pro. I got lucky, now if it ever gets delivered. Wave 1 order. Still waiting. Shouldn't complain though if it saves me $8500, when I get to pay for it.

I guess here in the southwest we would only get the extra 10 mile benefit maybe a month or so, out of the year. I can live with that.
