Anybody else notice the slight "Click" when starting off either in forward or reverse?

Well yeah I guess that could be a slight click from an electrical contactor or something. I guess I was just hoping it wasn't a half-shaft that already had a bearing or spline problem.

Ya know how when you get something completely new and you are really focused on the details of it? And you're comparing it to the thing you traded in and are contrasting the differences? I think that's what I'm doing. Exploring, comparing, and contrasting.

So...I'm off to do some more of that today. I think I'll explore Sport mode today!

with the auto-hold feature providing 'holding' of your brakes while you release the pedal, it's certainly understandable that there is a 'mechanical' device that is performing that service, with an electronic action. When releasing the 'hold' the mechanical device has to release the brakes, but rather than a foot action from an already pressed pedal, it's a 'sudden' release, and probably more noticeable when there is gravity pressure on the brake action, such as if the truck is on a slightly up-hill or down-hill slope.
Regardless, I'm sure that the weight of the LIGHTNING, versus the weight of the MachE, might also play into the mechanical action since the truck could have 16,000lbs or more of pressure on the 'hold' brakes if a large towed trailer and/or heavy load were in play.

but, yes, you don't tend to notice these things on a 'loud' engine rumbling truck, of course.

Adding a trailer should not add much if any additional stopping power. The braking system on any vehicle is rated for GVWR not GVCW so the max extra braking for a trailer would be maybe max 2000lbs, anything over and you're supposed to have brakes on the trailer which handles the weight of the trailer.

In another forum I was reading that some people are hearing an audible clunk from the plastic divider in the frunk. Not saying that this is your clunk but it does track with stopping and starting. https://www.[banned site]/threads/clunk-in-the-frunk.1260/#post-12162
Plastic divider in the frunk...of the Lightning?

I've only seen the frunk deck storage floor panel..I don't think I have a plastic divider. And I took the one out of my Mach-E because it limited what size grocery cooler bags I could stick in there.

Your link above is saying it's from some site that is "banned" btw. So I couldn't read that.

So rain quit and I re-tested with Auto-hold off. The click is not as nearly pronounced as it was and I now only hear a very faint possible click from the driver's side rear as I pull forward.

So I'm thinking Auto-hold had a lot to do with what I was hearing.

Other notes:

I connected up the laptop today (FDRS) and reset all CMDTCs (minor stuff and none of it was persistent) so there are no SW Updates as of now for those who are wondering. All green across the board now.

I did notice my truck has the Alexa icon on the top row of the center display now. I don't think I'll be pressing that button any time soon.

Mike
You are the man !! I was hoping we had someone on this side with FDRS and the knowledge. The ICE thread is still slammed with poor guys trying to get their 2021's out of OTA failed update purgatory. I had asked over there if one of them would check a Lightning VIN, but I got crickets and didn't want to bother them.

Do you mind sharing, do you keep a long term license or only a few days at a time? It will truly be nice to know how many and how often they get some updated software put together and if they will truly push them to our trucks when needed, or if they just stack them up and never push like to the ICE trucks for the most part.

Because it is electric it is designed to make noise when it starts to move.

Just maybe?…..
Nooooo - not at all. At least I hope Ford was better than this.

Truly there should be little to no sound at all from releasing the brakes. It could all depend on their implementation. Tesla uses the ibooster from Bosch https://www.bosch-mobility-solutions.com/en/solutions/driving-safety/ibooster/ While in hold or situations where the car applies the brakes you will see and feel the pedal move. When hold releases the pedal releases.

The Lightning would have to be similar.

Someone else noted with no ICE noise you hear smaller nuances and I agree, but I don't ever hear the brakes relese on my Model 3.

I think they mean the floor panel - you can stand it up in slots to make it a divider so the name still applies. Could be undersized and sliding back and forth on acceleration / deceleration.

Ahh.. okay. I've put up the cargo net in there but that's pretty much all I've done so far. Didn't realize that thing was a divider.

I have an annual license and look up VINs for Mach-E users at request (and if I'm available at the time).

I intend to keep an eye on my Lightning's VIN just to see if anything pops up. I can post it to a thread if I see it.

Yes. The floor storage panel. Apparently it can shift around freely. On the other forum (that I am not allowed to mention here) the guy posed a video illustrating the source of the noise. If you search F150 lightning forums on Google it will be in one of the first links. You can search the article "clunk in the frunk" to find the original post. Sorry for the cloak and dagger but I got a slap on the wrist for trying to post the link.

Here is a question about the modules that pop on the trucks. If a chip or board is missing from the truck - like perhaps our automatic wipers right now, will that prevent some modules from showing up in the As Built and FDRS listings? I'm curious if you compared FDRS for a delivered complete truck to one that was recently built now on chip hold trucks, would they be the same in FDRS or could we truly determine which chips are missing by what data is missing from the FDRS / As Built listing?

I've got a VIN for a truck waiting on chips - Lariat ER with Max Tow and AT tires.

At least it doesn’t squeal all over the place when applying the brakes like the ICE does
