My door has been a little “sticky” for the past month. Today it would absolutely not open for me. A swift smack got it to pop open but as soon as I close it, Stuck again! Checked the pin and added a small amount of lube. No luck. I can open it with a smack but I guess it’s time to grab back to the dealership 😫

I’ve always had to smack mine near the rear edge about half way from top to bottom. I just assumed this was normal. I hope to learn more by following this thread.

One time I was in a gas station to get tractor diesel and next to me was a teenage girl with her family’s late model VW SUV who couldn’t get that car’s flap to open. Several of us tried to help, with no success. I bet this has the same type of flap latch.

I have to push on it "like I mean it" but I wouldn't say I have to smack it. Weird that it would suddenly change on ya. Definitely sounds like the dealer should look at it. :(

Tips:

1) Push directly over the plunger.
2) Spray silicone into the receiving section.

I have issues with it latching at times, but so far it's been pretty good to open.

Yes, I too have the problem where an excessive amount of pressure is required to press on the door to open it. The whole door flexes in the process. I can see it failing in a year or two's time especially if I use it every day(unlike a gas filler door - one or twice a week?).

Also, I get that motorized doors etc are expensive, but I'd prefer that over this insanity.

I was worried about the door on our Mach-e that operates exactly the same way, but 2 year in and it is fine.

In over a year of ownership never really had an issue. Once you figure out the “sweet spot”

tied to lube it a bit. No dice. Thanks for the advice tho!

The problem with the "Sweet spot" is that is silly to have to "know" where it is. It reminds me a LOT of Tesla Model S early models that required you to know where the "sweet spot" was to close the frunk - if you were off by a few inches, you'd permanently damage(as in dent)the aluminum hood.

This is a piece of plastic, which I fear will crack - on the other hand, it's just a piece of plastic, how expensive can it be to replace when it does fail?

Within a couple weeks of getting my Lightning, the charge door would require many pushes to open. I watched videos, found the sweet spot, sprayed silicone lube, etc. Then, on a road trip to Arizona, I was down to <10% at the EA station in Quartzsite (my nominee for worst EA station in America). The door absolutely refused to open. Eventually, I got screwdriver and with it and my fingers, I pried the door off the truck. I used duct tape to secure the door for the rest of the trip.

When I got back to California, I went into the dealer. Fortunately, the service manager had a personal Mach-E with a similar problem and was sympathetic. The dealership - Raceway Ford in Riverside - was actually quite responsive, had a new charge port assembly (in the right color) air shipped to them, and it was installed in about two hours under warranty.

One thing to check: The pin inside the rubber boot can rotate - the whole design sucks - and if it does, it won't unlatch. Make sure it is in the right position.

Awesome! Thanks for the reply. The truck is at the dealer now. Hopefully they will show mercy
