The 40 amps is not actually that surprising. When an ice vehicle is powered on,
Would a power supply like this work for the updates?

12V power supply
Fake chinesium garbage being sold by fake chinese companies with fake specs and fake pictures on Amazon is not what I would trust to power ANYTHING, let alone an $80,000 truck during critical updates. It is physically impossible for that thing to actually do what the fake advertisement says it could.

A real product that can provide 40+ amps continuously starts at around $250 and are on wheels because they're so big. So keep that in mind when shopping on Amazon...

If what is being said here is true, I can't wrap my brain around how Ford got themselves in this position...

Insane power draw to update modules, and only relying on a tiny 12 V battery for it, with no means of powering it off of the HVB.

Could you recommend what to use for connecting to the battery? I'm putting a shopping list together. More and more I'm starting to think I want to do these updates myself.

I made cables with 6awg and ring terminals. 50 amps is a lot of current!

Ford needs to re-engineer their OTA structure.
basically they need to allow DC-DC converter running to have continuously supply to 12V system from HVB

12V BMS Sensor is one of the factors that blocks OTA, and the tiny 12V battery would be the another major factor

Ford is probably thinking why I need a big 12V since the DC-DC is working all the time, a 12V battery is only needed when the vehicle is completely shut, big mistakes as more and more features need power when the car is off, and DC-DC isn't active when the ignition is off.

probably 2025 Truck will fix it with a massive H8 AGM hahahahhaha

I completely agree that the EV's should have a bigger 12v battery to cater to the OTA process.

I'm obviously no engineer but why in the world do they need a 12v, why don't they just step down the HV pack voltage for the 12v system, they could even use a small battery still but it should be a continuous process. A truck that can power your home can't power it's own OTA process, huh? lol

Ford's BlueCruise 1.4 represents a substantial leap in driver-assistance technology. Its limited availability is unfortunate, given the potential market advantage for Ford. Even Rivian, with its advanced tech stack, cannot retroactively deploy similar features to its first-generation vehicles. This further underscores the complexity of such systems and the opportunity for Ford to capitalize on their innovation.

The module that drives the HVB contactors might need to be interrupted for updates, causing a loss/lack of control to close the HV to DC/DC inverter circuit.

Because when the DC-DC converter and other supporting components need to shut down, the vehicle could never be turned back on. The 12v battery is minimally needed to black start the truck.
