Chiming in also. My HIS has been installed for two years and has never worked. I was so frustrated I gave up for a little bit. I just started calling Ford BEV group last week for some help. My charger never once came online, they sent me a new one that I installed Monday. I now have a communicating charger that is linked for Fordpass and the truck for the first time, but the HIS is not linked. I get to the PIN screen in the truck, but no PIN comes up on the app. BEV sees the charger, and it is updated. I would NEVER have dropped the coin in to this HIS had I known it is a brick. Sunrun is no help, I could have installed a great, reliable Generac for less. I would have no issue joining a suit.
ive been trying to get them to warranty my charger for a year now. they keep telling me an update will be out... for a year...

This happened to me, too. I will try to remember what I did to get it to work. I know I had to get the right rear seat area of the truck within about 4’ of the charger, then open the right rear door and fold that seat down (the truck’s Bluetooth is there). I also reset the truck modem a few times.
how do you reset the trucks modem?

with the truck on, push and hold the “right seek” button and the volume-down button on the steering wheel till the touch screen goes black.
This only resets the screen. It does nothing to reset the modem. Pulling fuse 32 is supposed to work. I actually pull the cable from the modem but don’t really suggest others do that.

Ah. Well, I did the “reset” I described above based on the over-the-phone instructions of a Ford rep, and it seemed to help.

Well up here in the Northwest we had a power outage. Ford Intellegent Backup to the rescue?

Of course not. I was hoping with the 10.1.1 update that the communication issue would be solved. I tried the charger lock release and re-plug. System did not come up, it was stuck in preparing to provide power. I then turned off automatic and went to manual. In manual mode I was able to start providing power 3 times, but, it only provided power for about 5 seconds. Very frustrating.

I called Ford support today. They took down my charge station number this time. I got the response that this is a known problem and a Over the Air update will fix it by the end of this year....which is similar to the answers I received in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Same answer, no resolution. Another HIS disappointment. If there was only a way to get my investment back.

Are they kidding?! By the end of this month might be more appropriate, @Ford Motor Company .

With all the time Ford has had to figure out how they screwed up, they ought to either fix the problem, replace the equipment responsible with equipment that can do the job, or refund the money paid to have the original non-working equipment set up. Since the Home Integration System was initially a big selling point for buying a Lightning, perhaps Ford just wants to delay, delay, delay so the problem gets so old it fades into oblivion except for the out-of-luck relatively few owners of the original system way back when. The Home Integration System? Oh, that was years ago! Don't pay any attention to that. We now have the new Whats-A-Frappy system, and it works great. Maybe the calculus now is that a big HIS settlement is bad publicity that Ford doesn't want for its EV business...

That part threw me off as well...

The way it works is that I had to open the ChargeStationPro app and select Intelligent Backup Power, go through the enabling steps, and when you get to the step to search for the FCSP/HIS, you have to both hit search on the CSP app and on the truck's screen at the same time, when the pin pops up, it should then show up on the truck as well as the CSP app.

@Ford Motor Company this is a failure of massive massive proportions for consumers. Imagine buying a 90k truck to buy 10-11k worth of equipment for it not to work YEARS after buying it. Imagine someone dies because they can’t keep medicine cold for the 3 days power is out. It’s going to come, the longer this doesn’t work.

Unfortunately, this thread is exactly what I expected HIS to be like, i.e. issues. I've learned over the years that I never buy something where the ownership is split like this. Also why I didn't buy the Ford chargers, because they don't make, or support them.

Before buying the Lightning, my research showed $10-$11K cost. 22kW natural gas generator cost me $10k installed, and it's always at my house ready to go.

Which charger have you seen take the most advantage of the lightnings dual chargers though? Being able to be topped up from nearly zero is the best part of the charger
