In the MME world they did something similar recently but used a different mechanism to prevent techs from doing the updates. They used the 'nuke option' in FDRS so that all Mach-E powertrain modules (all model years) were coded with a 'data error' symbol which effectively quarantined them from being updated until the powertrain module software was fixed and re-released.

The Lightning is an EV...but it's also an F-150...so they couldn't very well use the same method to quarantine powertrain updates on all F-150s when it's just the Lightning EVs that had the problem. So they simply released a message in PTS/OASIS telling techs not to do 23B57...which updates the powertrain modules.

I've been told that the Lightning team is hard at work on the problem, confidence is high, and we should endeavor to persevere.

A CSP is a Customer Satisfaction Program that offers a corrective fix to customers for a specific concern. Meaning they are reaching out to the customer and notifying them that they have a solution to a problem and want the customer to schedule service to fix it.

The FSA is that action that addresses the concern.

For the record. My truck is still at the dealer. It's been there since around March 24th, with no specific end in sight.

I was told they were waiting for a tool to replace a cell (yes, they keep saying cell, not module).

Next, they told me the tool arrived and needed to be sent back to be re-programmed.

Then, they said they got the tool back and that the tool is what they need to IDENTIFY which cell(s) to replace. I have't heard back from them as to whether they've actually tested it or have replacements available.

I'm well past the period where I can file for the New York Lemon Law, but I'm giving them a bit more time to actually run their test and give me an ETA.

There could be a few things going on with the hold, but my module replaced a month or so back truly wasn't out of spec by the current SW, but was very near the edge. Ford Engineering had them replace the module. They could be updating specs or calculations.

Could they also be updating the BMS to help correct or fix the problem with software. Or maybe even mark a specific pouch bad and remove it from usage?

I believe the tracking still shows the vast majority of trucks with the issue are '22. This still indicates to me a problem was found and fixed - was it physical? Was it SW? can it be remediated now without physical replacement?

My truck just had the battery fault warning. Message said that it may drive until turned off and then it will not start. It did start and I was able to drive home. Service appointment is not available until next week. What do you think, can I drive it till then or do as the app message states and have it towed to the dealer now? This is my only vehicle so this sucks. Did any of you guys get a loaner from the dealer or did you hav to pay for a rental car?

There must be different levels of severity for this dependent on what went wrong. My message has been less ominous. If you have a DTC reader you can see the specific error. Mine was: P0B24 (Hybrid/EV Battery 'A' Voltage Unstable). Dealer tests showed I had a battery module out of spec (still waiting for repair).

Note a Powertrain Malfunction is not always a battery module; there have been other causes.

Actually I have found it to be more useful on my Lightning than my old truck. You don't need the old style plug-in/built-in screen ones. Simply get a cheap Bluetooth OBD dongle (I have this one) and use CarScanner or FORScan Lite on your phone. Search CarScanner on this forum and you will see all the different parameters you can use it for. It will also display DTC's.

This just in...the FSA 23B57 has been put on hold temporarily.

From what I understand it's just until they sort out the powertrain software and release an update.

Interesting. I received the OTA update for the CSP on March 11 (see attachment). Not dealer forced, just the update Ford sent through. Are there issues with it?

My suggestion is to invest in the right cable and get a Forscan license. You can read the codes and make fun modifications like turning on Glare Free lights.
