Not incompetent, it's intentional.

All manufacturers don't want to waste time and money customizing every single vehicle.
This isn't about customizing a build, it's about literally not being able to put together the information to be able to officially install the controller as a dealer-installed option. Dealers LOVE this sh*t and make tons of money on these options. Search around and there are dealers charging in the $600-$700 range to install the controller in ICE models when it's a $200 part (retail) and a 15 minute install. Plus the manufacturer, Ford, makes additional profit off of the part sales.

Only the incompetent walk away from a free money buffet.

K is the 8th character, so your truck is a SR with NCM

Your window projected mileage and range is exactly like my 2023 Pro SR with NCM battery. It is a great truck and it will pull like a bull, just add the aftermarket brake controller and enjoy.

I might try another dealer if there is one close.

Ford is completely incompetent here. I have a '24 Lariat ER *with* the Towing Tech package, but in the '24s they deleted the controller from the package, so I have all of the tech EXCEPT the brake controller. All of the dealers and Ford themselves tell you that it can't be added. You can find the part (switch plus controller box) that is put in '24 models with the Max Tow Package, but the parts site and dealers will tell you that it can't be installed.

Others on the site have got the part and put it in themselves, but it MUST be enabled with the Forscan tool.

Hi

Just to be clear you folks are correct my battery size or chemistry should have nothing to do with a trailer brake controller!

Here is my VIN 1FTVW1BK4RWG22510 and my sticker

Ford did add the option to the VIN but as you say I haven’t heard of them actually building any trucks with LFP. A 5 in position 8 actually indicates a 5.0 liter V-8.

my VIN is this 1FTVW1BK4RWG22510

You will want to avoid the advice on the video about charging. Plenty of discussion here on best charging practices for the NCM battery.

It does Tow and pull, but why not install what I already paid for in the deal for the Truck?

I use a simple ag Hitch in the receiver, so I've already pulled a hay rack with 7,200# on it with a SMV sign.

But if I want to go over 20 mph then I need brakes.

I asked the dealership General Manager and Service Advisor for documentation from Ford on the issue.

Thank you TaxManHog

My bad! OLD FARMER HERE BAD EYE SIGHT.

Glad I don't do my own taxes

i do have a NCM battery.

So I am hearing the issue here maybe the dealer then if the controller and switch from the 2024 Max Trailer Tow package will do the trick.

As others mentioned above, if the wiring harness' are in place I can't understand why they can't make it work, do you have a 7 pin round trailer plug at the rear?

Not a farmer myself although I have traveled some rough roads and intend to travel more of them... for towing my brake-equipped teardrop trailer I use the Curt Echo BlueTooth removable trailer brake controller, now for over 10,000 miles of towing the trailer with two separate cars.

It works well, in rain, snow or good weather. The only mod to my Lightning was adding a (very short) ignition switched-ON circuit to the brake pin on the truck receptacle side. I also like that I can effortlessly switch it between vehicles.

I found there is one silly yet important downside to this Curt Echo BlueTooth trailer brake controller: it is so small and handy, it is just too easy to lay the black Echo on the black bumper while parking the disconnected trailer, and then just forget it is there and drive off. I wrapped the center of the Curt Echo with bright yellow safety tape to visually prevent that.
Thanks if needed I will pursue your suggestion.

Oh yeah it’s possible. I’m just speculating of course, but knowing dealers and how they are it would not surprise me if it’s possible that the OP could do this himself. If I was him I’d pop that coin holder so we can see what we are working with.

Did they actually try and install the controller in the same way they would do so on a gas truck?

I don't see how this would be any different than any other gas Ford. The only difference potentially being if it only has a 4 pin in the back.

There are 2024 and 2025 build sheets around, see if max tow and tow tech are available with the SR. Previously tow tech included the controller but I believe for 24 that was switched to max tow (why not both is mind boggling).

You can add it. You have a TRM now BUT you have to replace the TRM with one in the complete package you can’t add trailer brake with only adding the pincher controller.

if you need help I can do it for you .. the 24 lightning uses the same trailer brake package as 21-23 ICE trucks

the only possibility I can see is they are trying to add the 24 ice truck part number and that is wrong for the 24 lightning
