Keep us posted, this will be a litmus test for manual return filing with alternate documentation
I will be checking it daily, just for any updates and worst case scenario if mailing in tangible evidence of purchase within the qualifying year is accepted, then that gives others the option to mail in an amendment if necessary including their own evidence.

My dealership had not heard about the portal opening again until I informed them.

Then they waited until today to input my sale.

While the sale does not yet show in my IRS portal my efile tax return was not rejected, instead it was accepted.

I'll be watching the portal for the sale and my tax return status but seem to be over the hump of the dealership screwing up.

My portal still is not showing the truck...which is odd. But my portal does show this:
Ford F-150 Lightning Dealerships that didn't provide paperwork for EV Tax Credit {Solution post #119} 1000000402

So I can finally close the purchase chapter of this truck. :)

This is interesting, hope you get the credit w/o issues!

Was this a joint return? If so was the spouse listed as the purchaser of the vehicle?

In this type of scenario, the information report would be on their tax account, FYI for anyone in this situation. Information returns are only for individual taxpayers, with joint filing of the 1040, the system analyzes both tax accounts for all data reports to match against the jointly filed tax return.

I know where to check the status of my refund, but where do you check the dealer submission?

You need to register for online access to your tax account (which is more detailed than the "Wheres my refund" application. https://www.irs.gov/your-account

Once registered, you go here:

Ford F-150 Lightning Dealerships that didn't provide paperwork for EV Tax Credit {Solution post #119} 1743765948220-vt

This section will show the data reports for 2024 or 2025 if there was a recent purchase.

You and spouse must BOTH check individually depending on who is the listed buyer.

Thanks! This was hugely helpful. After 2 months claiming they did what they obviously didn’t do, a screen shot showing my EV credit lacking on this IRS site was what it finally took to get the dealer to file in the portal. They got a “Pending Review” response. Anyone have an idea how long that review might take?

I'm not sure, maybe 24/48 hours they should get an acknowledgement and be able to print your 15400.

Hey gents, it’s been a while. Just figured I’d give y’all an update. My tax return still shows “return received” status and has not yet been pushed through to either rejected or approved. It’s going on roughly 2.5 months almost since the return has been registered in their system but I do have quite a few things that can delay the process. (Sole prop. Income + w2, deductions, etc.) so it’s to be expected that mine would take longer than usual on top of it being mailed or versus E-filing. Unsure whether to even attempt contacting someone at the IRS. Anytime I’ve ever had to do so in the past has been an utter nightmare or if it’s best just left processing until I get any sort of notice (rejected/accepted/etc.)

I always paper file. Don’t expect your check until mid to late summer. Years ago it was faster but the past 5 or so years they have cut back on staff who handle paper filings and things have been delayed dramatically.

It's either not been fully keyed yet or has been and an issue has popped up, waiting for review and possible follow-up correspondence to you (if needed).

I had to paper file. I even told my dealership the portal was open but they don't care and they had no intention of doing what they were supposed to do. no remorse, nothing. I tried contacting the person in charge at the dealership, tried to contact the regional manager, and I didn't get a single response. All I could do was leave them a bad yelp review. I filed by mail over a month ago, and still haven't been approved for the refund.

Mine still shows "Return Received" after 3 months. Read somewhere that it only updates if you're getting a refund which would make sense why mine hasn't updated as I owed a little.

A chat GPT letter in legal-sounding terms threatening small claims due to failure to uphold (or some other similar sounding lesgalise) might help.

I wonder if you could find other evs sold from that dealership and contact other owners
