As many have noted on the forum, the Ford wireless phone charger is not good. I refer to mine as the ’phone heater’. So, not wanting to give up on wireless charging I installed a MagSafe puck (i think these are iPhone only so YMMV). I also did not want to install it somewhere on the dash or center console and have a wire running around. It’s worked out to be very slick and is far superior to the built-in charger in terms of heat to charging ratio. Anyway, figured I’d share for anyone who has similar complaints and desires.

Ingredients:
  1. MagSafe charging puck
  2. Double sided tape (I used 3M double sided body panel tape which is seriously incredible stuff)
Result (the dust level and dead fly are somewhat embarrassing, but such is life):

The MagSafe puck is arranged so that the drawer cover still closes without issue. Hopefully this is useful to someone!

I noticed my phone was hot the last time I used it so added a cord to use instead.

What about placing the puck over the existing pad? Or mounting it to a separate pad, laying on top, so that the phone is still viewable on the angle, as designed? Would there be interference from or issue with the built-in?

Nice! I like how the phone is hidden away. The phone getting extra hot when wirelessly charging is usually an alignment issue with the charger. You might be able to adjust where you have the charger mounted.
I've been working on a charger for my phone for the hole that the shifter folds into. It's worked pretty well for me so far. I designed it for my phone (S23 Ultra) with a case, though, so it might not line up just right for other phones.

It's really a shame that we have to engineer working solutions that Ford couldn't do themselves...

That's really clever! Appreciate the other ideas too. My XLT didn't come with wireless car charger, but seems trivial to add if I ever wanted it.

I posted this on the Mach-E site but I guess I should have posted here as well. The phone charger in the Lightning (WACM) is not magsafe compatible. Period. Full Stop. Read that to mean, not compatible with any iPhone that uses magsafe charging. So you'd actually have to come up with your own method of charging a magsafe phone anyway.

Great idea. I just did the same with a actual Apple brand puck. Thanks for the idea.

In the garage I’ve got a replacement, non-phone-heater-equipped bin. I plan on doing a full phone charger delete soon as I get the time to pop the dash apart.

The non-charger bin is quite a bit larger.
