Florida turnpike does not support EV drivers !!! No non Tesla chargers at the north most service center, and chargers not working at the Duke Energy chargers at the following 2 service centers. That is 150 miles !!!!

I have never understood why people choose to drive on a toll road when a parallel road is free...

This is why you plan a trip, and lookup every charger on PlugShare before departing AND while on the trip. It shoes accurately these are broken.

Rick, I will second it about the Florida turnpike. Secondary roads add a much longer travel distance as they don't just parallel the trip. We just did the trip last week and luckily had our backup plan in place for other chargers. I think it is a valid point that a major road should have the availability of chargers and when chargers are constantly being shown as broken on Plugshare, it would be nice if the company decided to fix them.

Iā€™d prefer not to, but the alternative may not be ā€˜freeā€™ or even much cheaper if factoring in the extra time stopping at all the traffic lights. (I have no FL Turnpike experience but trying to avoid the NJ one is like that.) Spending an extra 2+ hours dealing with the plague of the ā€˜stroadā€™ isnā€™t a fun idea.

PlugShare does often accurately show charger availability/status, but it can fail you too. Despite planning, I almost ended up stranded on the NJ turnpike last year because several rest stop chargers in a row were inaccessible - and none of them were indicated unavailable in PlugShare until I flagged them.

The state of charger availability in this country remains best described as an embarrassment.

I-95 parallels much of the Florida Turnpike.

Plugshare works best when you report the good charging experiences with the bad. You want to build confidence in the system? Nothing better than seeing a report from a Lightning that got 177 kW out of #3 yesterday afternoon. If the last experience was a bad report from last December and you must have that charger in your trip plan... ????

There is an Electrify America (wallmart) 14 miles south of the northern Junction of the Turnpike and I75 in Bushnell that has always worked well, I am there usually 2-3 times per week. 60 miles North of the Turnpike junction on I75 Archer Rd. in Gainesville Electrify America at Target works great also, although it can get busy depending on time of day. Lake City (about 50 miles North of Gainesville) has an FPL charger that works great also.
