To be clear here, Tesla‘s chargers are in fact Tesla own. Ford owns zero chargers. Yes the various charging networks suck in comparison to Tesla, but it’s not Fords fault.

The closest shell station to my house dispenses diesel at a rate of about 1 gallon per minute. This isn’t the fault of my diesel vehicle and I don’t call out the manufacturer for a problem outside their control. I call out the station owner and when he doesn’t fix it (3yrs now) I take my business elsewhere.

The problem here is we bought into an emerging mode of transit, and until it’s more widely adopted there’s going to be challenges (some significant, some not). That reality isn’t going to work for everyone.
This! Ford is not in the business of EV Charging just like they aren’t in the business of selling gas.

Tesla is in the business of both and is miles ahead of the competition. You have to have a plan A B C and D with Ford. With Tesla it’s only Plan A most of the time.

Agree. Blaming this on Ford is like getting mad at Expedia.com for delays on a Delta flight.

Personally I am not mad at Ford for the spotty charging situation. Unless you have a Tesla ( which we do, original 2013 model S we still own), it will be a hit or miss. You will navigate with different apps, suppliers and deal with broken or marginally functional chargers. I knew that ahead of time and didn't expect to charge the truck pretty much anywhere except in my garage in Texas. Different story with our Tesla, even at 10 years old we feel we can easily drive anywhere and the charging is quick, reliable and available without issues. Personally I would never road trip in the F150 given the current charging situation. Too much of a chance to be stuck. Especially in Texas we don't have all the many options and have huge distances. I think over time this will actually get worse as I expect the car manufacturers to built faster than the electric charging network. So I do not expect to have a viable road trip vehicle. Tesla has decided to have proprietary chargers AND you can use every other charger so many more options and the chargers have grown faster than the number of Teslas at least in Texas.

Having said all this, I love the truck and it is so much more refined and comfortable to drive than our Tesla. It's like comparing a luxury ride to an old economy car. But we like both for what they are.

Just to throw this out there..

--I didn't read all of your posts but I think it's important for you to know that the original poster is at a really stressful area for electric charging. I did a trip around there this summer, and you hit the jersey outlets (which are really nice and all chargers worked when I was there) and then after that there are no Level 3 chargers for like 90 miles in all directions. If you are going to Atlantic City from New York and this charger doesn't work , you honestly might be as pissed as the original poster.
In my attached image you can see the unavailable charger and then all that space to south with nothing .

Edit :this of course is not a Ford problem , it’s truly an electric infrastructure problem. There are no level 3 chargers in that whole area by any company . No EVgo , etc .

I'd be pissed at Electrify America, not Ford. That is what alot of the responses are saying.

Here in NJ they are giving 2k to 4k for evs under 55k and no sales tax. They should use that money to build chargers instead. At every GSP rest stop, there should be a fast charger.

EA stations for us Ford owners suck also because VW cars have free charging for 3 years included. (Diesel gate crap). At the station by me, there are always the same people charging with all the stalls almost full.

The only reliable company that I never have had a problem with is Chargepoint. But they don’t really have “fast chargers”…

thanks for your pictures, it is really a gamble down there. I had to go to freehold and then continue.

at least the youtube worked :)

Definitely! I think the same thing as I roll up 95 and look longingly at the tesla chargers at the rest stops. CT put some DCFCs in at a few of their rest stops so hopefully this will become a trend.

I’m in CA and regularly make the drive to AZ on interstate 10. The distance I have to travel is 235 miles from one city to another with 1 EA charger at about the half way point. Same issues my friend. Love the truck but with 1 stop that ALL EVs need to use to get from CA to AZ it gets busy very regularly. Insult to injury Tesla has 34 stalls across the street and is currently building 88 more. Praying for “magic Dock”. Save us Tesla! LOL

I’m going to add to this because I don’t think people truly fathom the gap in infrastructure. My Tesla is a 75D model and with degradation only gets 218 miles on the GOM at full charge and only about 150-170 real world miles.

Because the charging network is so reliable, fast, and abundant (and free for me) there is minimal time savings. We’re gearing up to do a 20 hour 1100 mile drive. The Tesla arrives only 12 minutes later than both the Rivian and the Lightning ER using public networks despite having nearly 55% less range. THAT is the gap that needs to be made up and unfortunately Ford is at the mercy of others to make it up.

Elon is today’s Henry Ford, thinking through the problems. Ford needs to fix charging infrastructure much like Henry had to figure out getting paved roads. Truck repairs aside, I love my Lightning, but hate public charging. So on a long trip, while I would prefer the Lightning we usually wind up taking the Tesla.

Just having it work right away after plugging in is such a difference maker. Tesla for me was 100% stress-free.

Which is frustrating given how well the Lightning drives. It soaks up miles with such ease and comfort, something my Tesla isn’t even close to. It’s what we want to take, but unfortunately rarely the one we actually do.

100% agree with that. Prefer the Lightning, especially now that I have it back. Would love to go cross country in it.

  • EA app says you are still charging at the previous location: log out and force quit app
This happened to me, it sucks. I tried everything with the app and it wouldn't go away. Logging out and/or uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't even stop it. I had to have EA remotely initiate two charges on a trip because the session from the first of the 3 was active still.

How do you stop your charge session? Just curious, because 1) I haven’t had this happen - yet; and 2) I’d like to try and avoid it, if possible.

TIA
