Hi F-150 Lightning owners,

We’re excited to announce that launching with the 2025 F-150 Lightning is an expanded Charge Settings app on the touchscreen and other improvements to allow you to take better control of your vehicle’s charging, including many improvements based on suggestions from our customers and owners (including many within this group!) – thank you.

Ford F-150 Lightning Expanded Charge Settings – Take Control of Your Charge 01 - Charge Settings Not Plugged In

Here’s how it works:

Live Charging
With the addition of Live Charging, you will be able to view your F-150 Lightning's charging speed in real time within the Charge Settings app.

When you’re charging on a Level 1 or Level 2 AC charger, you’ll see both your charge rate in Amps as well as kW:

And when you’re DC Fast Charging, you’ll see your charge rate displayed in kW:
Ford F-150 Lightning Expanded Charge Settings – Take Control of Your Charge 03 - Live Charging DC Cro

Global Target Charge

With the updated Charge Settings app, your Target Charge limit can be set with one simple slider, and the target will apply everywhere – no need to save a location first. To change it, just drag and release the slider. This target charge level will apply to all Level 1 and Level 2 AC charging as well as DC Fast Charging.

Ford F-150 Lightning Expanded Charge Settings – Take Control of Your Charge 04 - Slider Detail Cro

You will see a “Daily” portion of the slider from 50% to 90% and a “Trip” section between 90% and 100%. Ford recommends charging your battery to a limit within the Daily range for day-to-day driving and frequent charging, and using the Trip range when you need extra range.

Preferred Charge Times allow you to save charging locations you’ve previously visited and schedule your charging at those locations individually.

AC Charge Rate Control

With the addition of charge rate control for AC charging, you can adjust your vehicle’s maximum charging speed on a Level 1 or Level 2 charger.

This feature is designed to help make life easier if you wish to slow your charging down, for example to time the completion of charging to align with when you will return to your vehicle, or if you’ve experienced circuit breaker trips at a certain charger.

By default, this value will be set at maximum AC charge rate for your vehicle. To reduce this rate, tap the Advanced option from the Charge Settings screen, and an AC Charge Rate slider will appear.

Charge Port Locking

To improve Fast Charging Adapter security and reduce the chance of your vehicle being unexpectedly unplugged when fast charging, your vehicle’s charge port will no longer automatically unlock when fast charging is completed.

To unlock the charge port, you will use the unlock button in the middle of the Charge Status Indicator light located next to charge port:

When pressing this button with your vehicle’s key (or your phone with Phone as a Key (if equipped)) near the charge port or with vehicle doors unlocked, charging will stop and the charge port will unlock.

If the unlock button is pressed without the vehicle’s key present, the charge port will remain locked and charging will continue. If a press of the charge port unlock button does not unlock the charge port, ensure a key is positioned near the charge port, or press the door unlock button inside the vehicle.

Charge port locking applies to DC Fast Charging only. Level 1 and Level 2 AC charging can be unplugged without pressing the unlock button.

Thank you for your feedback which we used to develop these features.

Robert and Brian

@Ford Motor Company Will the global charge limit be ignored if a location is saved? For instance, I like to charge past 70% when at work but I limit it to 70% when at home.

Edit: Also, would be nice if the write up for Lightning owners reference a lightning instead of a MachE. :)

One more thing, why no Amps reported for DCFC?

Live Charging
With the addition of Live Charging, you will be able to view your Mustang Mach-E’s charging speed in real time within the Charge Settings app.
Wouldn't be a Ford release without an immediate update required...

When you’re charging on a Level 1 or Level 2 AC charger, you’ll see both your charge rate in Amps as well as kW:
Ford F-150 Lightning Expanded Charge Settings – Take Control of Your Charge 02-live-charging-ac-crop-
48A @ 208v is 10.0kW (and pretty rare to be on 208...)
48A @ 240v is 11.5kW (and much more common)
69%.... oooookay. Did they pick 9.6kW because its 69 backwards?

And when you’re DC Fast Charging, you’ll see your charge rate displayed in kW:
Ford F-150 Lightning Expanded Charge Settings – Take Control of Your Charge 03-live-charging-dc-crop-
69%.... 69kW. Oooookay. Who's the sexaholic in marketing? Might need some light coaching.

Global Target Charge

With the updated Charge Settings app, your Target Charge limit can be set with one simple slider, and the target will apply everywhere – no need to save a location first. Who was responsible for that feature addition? Thats totally stupid....
Charge curve falls off at 80% on DC charging, so it normally makes sense to stop there, unless you're going through a charging desert... then your going higher.
AC... every day charging, most people are in the 80-95% range...
Combining them under 1 global slider is.... pretty par for the course for you guys.

2025 and newer. At least you didn't wind us up by telling us we'd get this update in Summertime (2026). Appreciate the new features Tesla was putting in their cars back in 2018 finally rolling out to the Ford suite of products.

Two sliders, stacked, one for AC Charging and one for DC charging would be a simple remedy.

I'm just happy for new features!

Will these announced improvements be pushed to the older trucks, or just the 2025's?

Can we get a one time departure feature instead of having to go back and delete the times that you aren't departing after setting the time once?

Serious request:

1. Can I schedule a precondition for my cabin without preconditioning the battery... (like if I were to pull out my phone and wait the 60 seconds for the climate to engage, but on a schedule).

2. Can someone please fix the Google app/integration that used to exist? I used to be able to ask Google Assistant to start my truck (thereby enabling climate) but that feature went away when Conversational Actions were taken out back and shot.

and... https://www.f150lightningforum.com/forum/threads/ford-software-requests-for-2024.17824/#post-358348 should you wish to read the free wishlist we put together back in 2023...

I’m happy to see these features. These are all things I’ve wanted. I have a 23 lariat and I’m going to be another one that is asking and hoping that there will be a software update for us that already own a lightning.

Hopefully adjusting the charging speed works better from the truck than the FCSP. :cautious:

It should be!!! Really wish these enhancements brought to new model years would be shared with older Lightnings, but the trends for 2023, 2024 and now 2025 prove otherwise. Prove me wrong @Ford Motor Company
