Ford Lightning 2023 Lariat Extended Range
Hi everyone, first post, please go easy on me, doing my best to search and read prior to my questions

First up, Pro Charging Station installation
  • I have a 2023 Lariat Extended Range coming in the next 2-3 weeks
  • Long story, but I want to run a 50 AMP circuit out to my side yard driveway
  • I don't want to run the full 80 amp circuit for a variety of reasons , we may redevelop the land in the coming years, so I am not building for long lifespan
  • From all my research it appears (please tell me where i have this wrong)
    • The Ford Charging Station Pro can work with 50 amps, and you can dial it down, and this is safe and ok (no melted outlet boxes and wiring)
    • I should get a 6 gauge wire for this - something like this
    • I should install a 60 AMP circuit breaker to allow for the 50 AMP + headroom
Next, we have a rental that we want to make "EV Ready" for renters of all types of EV vehicles, and we dont want to spend a ton of money on it
  • This one is easier as the panel is 8 inches from where we want to install the Nema 14-50 outlet
  • We want to make this easily usable for a variety of folks who have "mobile chargers"
  • I am assuming we just install the Nema 14-50 outlet, use a 6 gauge wire, use the 60 amp breaker and we are good to go
Am I missing anything? Thank you in advance for the advice and corrections. Trying to get this right before I buy $500 in cable and start digging some trenches in the snow.

Thanks from Seattle,

Stardog

if you run the fcsp at 50amps you need 70 amp circuit. 4 gauge. 60 amp circuit is for 48amps continuous.

If you are running #6 THHN, you use a 60 amp breaker for 48 amp charging. If you are using #6 cable, you use a 50 amp breaker for 40 amp charging.

On the outlet, you use a 50 amp breaker with 40 amp max charging no matter if you use cable or individual conductors.

There is no 50 amp setting on the FCSP dip switch.

80% charging rule associated with wire and breaker. 50 amp wire and breaker means 40 amp charging max.

The UF 6 gauge wire is rated at 55 amps, as is 6 gauge romex

So can I just run the fcsp at 48 and use the 60 amp circuit and #6 wire? Thank you very much!

#6 THHN in conduit is good. If you want to run NM (Romex), you need #4.
