I think a big "COOL IT" to all the folks dissing people who got the A2Z adapter, etc. For all the fanboys of the Ford adapter know, it might be as unreliable as Ford's Home Integration System. šŸ¤£ And compared to all the other expenses of owning a $60K to $100K+ EV, what's a measly $200 to find out what Tesla Supercharging is like and possibly open up your range options months before Ford delivers? The best hope for the Ford adapter is that Tesla had a significant hand in designing it (hopefully). Putting down someone else is for the little people in life.
I forgot who it was that pointed it out, but the Lectron adapter actually appears to be a more robust design when it comes to the top latch. Having choices is a good thing.

Thanks for all the clarification on Tesla DCFC version numbers. I'm hoping that one of the places we road trip to frequently (i.e. annually or sometimes twice a year) will get upgraded from 150kW chargers to 250kW before our next planned trip there in June. :)

I'm still confused (doesn't take much these days)...how do we know that only V3/4 chargers will be usable by us? V2 at 150kW is still more throughput than a lot of other charging stations...
it's in the communication standard. V2 only supports Tesla's internal canbus communication. v3/4 supports ISO 15118

My understanding is that the V2s do not support the ISO15118 standard. That is the protocol that enables plug and charge. Older Tesla vehicles cannot use CCS chargers such as EAs even with an adapter because they can only communicate with the charger using the Tesla proprietary protocol. I think both the vehicles and the chargers can be upgraded with a new module so Iā€™m hoping that Tesla will upgrade some of them.

Worth also noting, though maybe it is obvious, but any new Tesla charger installations would be usable with the adapter, and they are rapidly expanding! check out supercharge.info!

Anyone know if these will do AC charging as well as DC Charging? I thought the A2Z does not, but perhaps someone who has one has tried?

If you want to reserve an adapter it probably depends if you are in a CARB state or your dealer prioritized their friends. Also they will start with lariet and above ......
Just wait until the invite to reserve is sent via OTAs...

Which of you guys kept saying that IF that day arrives, that it wouldn't be free?

https://arstechnica.com/cars/2024/0...get-free-adapters-to-use-tesla-superchargers/

Owners of Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks and Ford Mustang Mach-E electric crossovers will soon be able to reserve an adapter that lets them use Tesla Supercharger stations. Ford CEO Jim Farleyā€”last seen driving Ars around Charlotte Motor Speedway in a 1,300-hp Transit vanā€”took to social media and confirmed that the adapter will be free and that owners will be able to reserve one soon.

"When we announced @Ford EVs would get access to @Tesla Superchargers, I said we'd send customers a Fast Charging Adapter. I'm pleased to confirm that eligible #MustangMachE & #F150Lightning owners in the U.S. + Canada can reserve a complimentary adapter starting soon," Farley wrote.

You mean that adapter shipped to MME owners could not be used with lightning? That doesn't make sense.
I am guessing, but I bet the adapter is keyed to your VIN, in order to be acceptable within the Tesla network. As I said, I am guessing and if I loose, it's just a donut.

Does anyone know, how Tesla knows it is a Ford that is connected? Does the truck give the supercharger a VIN number? I can't see how these adapters would be special in that regard.
I think it is blind and you need a Tesla app. Once Ford move to new portal it would have sensor to let charger to detect, so much easier.

If that was the case, the A2Z adapter wouldn't work, and they claim that it does.
