I looked at reserving one. Then I saw that it's 91.6 inches wide--nearly a foot wider than the LIghtning. And nearly two feet wider than the original Scout. That's not a Scout. That's a Scout and a half smooshed together. No, thanks.

That's almost certainly including the mirrors. The Lightning including the mirrors is 96 inches wide. Without the mirrors, the Lightning is 80 inches wide. This thing hardly seems particularly wide.

Looks the scout frunk may actually be better than the Lightning's.

I disagree. the seat looks interesting, but where is it coming from. Looks like there is room for it on the bottom of the frunk, but you would need to remove everything to use it. Also as noted, there is 1/2 the space we have in the lighting.

With that said, I see a new aftermarket part for the Lightning. A platform that can act as a table or seat out the front of the frunk. When not is use it would sit on the bottom of the funk as a load floor, if there is cargo in the funk it would sit vertically in the opening to the frunk but not interfere with the lid closing/opening.

Sitting in front of the frunk would reduce the risk of heading the lid which has a few areas that hurt when you hit them. I have scars for proof.

Do we know that for sure? Everywhere I look when searching car widths, the standard is to quote body width. Kinda weird if they buck the trend on that without specifying.
Yes, if you did down in Scout's web site they list the dimensions and it explicitly says it's 91.6" wide including mirrors.

Maybe. My instinct would be to bring a chair and sit on that in the bed.

Separately, the scout looks cool though not sure how different it is from the Rivians. Though i don’t see how lightning owners would have frunk envy.

If you look closely at the picture, the lower body of the cab juts out under and as far out as the mirrors. So the width does appear to be 91.6 with or without the mirrors.

The rendering is not to scale, if you look at the top down photo someone posted above you can see the correct proportions.

Its track width seems to be about 87.5 inches.

Given the complete lack of reliable information about the dimensions other than what seemed like an aspirational diagram, I decided to estimate it by using an object of known size and extrapolating from that to the track width (body width is a bit more). The tires on the show vehicle are BFGoodrich 35x12.5R20, which are 12.5" wide.

The distance from outside tire to outside tire is almost exactly 7 tires. If this estimate is correct, it means the track width is 87.5 inches. I think that it's easily believable that the body width is 4.1 inches greater (2.05 inches on each side), given the fender flares.

I believe the width spec in the diagram on the Scout website is correct for the show vehicle. Whether that will also be true for the production vehicles remains to be seen.

In looking at the pics I also worry about their range claims…It does not look like a very aero design so highway range will take a big hit. Of course aerodynamics can be misleading given the limited views we have but that front end does not look like it was designed to slip through the wind. For long backcountry trips it won’t matter much, but you have to get there first and there are few chargers at trail heads…

A Scout employee has clarified on their forums that the production width will be 79.9" without mirrors. They'll update the website soon.

So much better. I might put in a reservation for the Traveler to replace the our Mustang Mach-E when the time comes.

I like alot of what VW is showing for the Traveler if it is available now. However, they hope for production in 2027 which probably means it will be a 2028 model. I hope the 2028 models will have better aero and not look like something built in 2023.

VW seems to have lost their way and may not fair well against the Chinese once the import barriers are released.

I have a hard time believing it is 5" wider than a Raptor.

I put down a deposit. They say 2027 so when it's ready in 2029 I'll be looking to replace my 2022 Lightning.
By that time the mysterious next generation (T3) Lightning will be released. From what I’ve been reading it sounds like it’ll be a “born as an EV” approach vs the “how quickly can we convert an F150 to EV” approach.

No chance I'm getting $300 in groceries in that like I do now with my Lightning.
