If you are uncertain, the dealer should have no trouble finding a buyer. My XLT SR isn't due for build until early January. What color did you choose?

I have gone from Washington, DC to Richmond, VA and from DC to Roanoke, VA. Fir the Richmond trio, I was able to go down and back on a single charge. For the Roanoke trip, I used The EA chargers in Woodstock, VA and then used the EV Go DC fast charger in Roanoke.

It is important to note that EA does not have a monopoly on DC fast charging for us. I have used Volta and EV Go DC fast charging, including on my Roanoke trip. I would recommend that you download the Plug Share App as well as apps for EA, EV Go, Volta and Charge Point. Doing so will allow you to see what exactly what charging infrastructure is out there (and the cost to charge) so that you can make an informed decision.

Keep the PB. Unless you can make money on selling it, which is unlikely at this point, it just doesn't make sense. The lightning drivetrain is definitely better, but everything else about your 502 PB is going to be better.

Unless you just REALLY want an EV, keeping the PB makes more sense. Get a next gen lightning once you're ready for something new to replace the PB!

Long story short, day 1 reservation holder and my Lightning XLT SR is being produced this coming week. I'm conflicted on whether to go ahead and purchase the vehicle. I currently drive a custom ordered 22 502A Lariat Powerboost with Blue cruise that I ordered last year when it looked like I wasn't going to get a Lightning any time soon (ha).

My current case use is mainly suburban driving. I pick up the kids, lots of errand hauling and we put the bed to use constantly. We do not tow. This would lend it self greatly towards the Lightning as I can charge in my garage no problem. I already have a 14-50 hookup installed when we built the house and a Emporia charger on the way purchased last week in case I end up getting the Lightning.

We do not plan to roadtrip, but once or twice a year I have to drive to work (Atlanta Hartsfield) and that trip is 193 miles one way. Halfway between is an EA fast charger site at a Walmart with 8 charging stations. There is another one about 30 miles further down the road into GA that has 4 stalls. I've been very apprehensive about it after reading all the EA charging issues. It would absolutely have to work for me or I'd be in trouble on that trip due to always having to make work by a certain time to sign in.

The cons agains the Lightning is that my powerboost has been flawless. It has more features being a 502A..granted they are niceties that aren't necessarily needed, but nice... heated/cooled leather seats, pano roof, blue cruise etc. I'm also able to road trip no issue in the powerboost and if we ever need to tow there would be zero issue. Fuel mpg is very good in town around 26-27 and combined with highway around 24. Not too bad for a full size truck.

Finally due to being able to order at a perfect time early this year, my 502A was well below invoice and I paid nearly the same as this XLT SR is going to cost (before potential tax credit which I may not qualify for in 23'.

I'm sure opinions are all over the place and its biased being an Lightning forum, but any good thoughts I'm missing? I go on the powerboost forums and they are of course tilted towards the hybrid being the best of both worlds currently.

Will I regret going EV? I drove our dealer's pro and it was a great ride, but I only drove it for 30 minutes about 4 months ago. I've wanted the Lightning for so long, but now that the time has come and my Powerboost has been so nice I'm just really torn. I'm still leaning towards getting the Lightning, but wanted some encouragement.

I’m in a similar situation. I have a 2020 Lariat 502A with the 3.5 Ecoboost, Technology package, panoramic roof, adaptive cruise control etc. It’s loaded. It only cost me $55k. I have an XLT SR due to be built 12/19. I love my truck immensely. But I do all local driving and get 15 mpg. I almost never go over 60 mph and we have traffic light after traffic light (suburban NJ). I get compliments on my truck all the time. I have the chrome package and keep my truck clean. I’m going to miss all the luxuries of this truck. I’ve done some research though. I plan to have aftermarket heated and ventilated leather seats installed. And change my black plastic door handles, mirror caps and tailgate handle to paint matched. And get the Lariat wheels. All in time anyway. Doing all of that will still be way cheaper than buying the Lariat Lightning. But it’ll make it look exactly like one. Besides, I like the 12” infotainment screen better than the 15”. So I’m nervous and apprehensive. But I think I can make my “cheap” truck look and feel like a more expensive one.

I have Platinum that will be coming soon as was built this past week 11/21 and think I'm either going to try to get something from the dealer for not taking it or buying and reselling. I went with the 92K or now 98K Platinum because I wanted all the bells and whistles but losing alot with all the deletes and only getting a $1050 credit is not sitting well with me. Thats why this week just bought a 2022 Limited that was built 3/22 and has no deletes and is almost 30K less. I was really looking forward to the truck but don't want to just settle for less after paying all the money. Think I'm going to wait a few years when hope all options are back, range is longer and sure there will be bugs to be worked out. Anyone want a 2023 Antimatter Blue Platinum I know where there will be one available

I would think the deciding factor would be what you can sell your current truck for. It seems both are good fits for you and it comes down to the numbers, which is going to cost you less overall?

I will say that the driving experience of the Lightning is not matched by many other vehicles. That is if you like acceleration.

I love my Lariat ER but a SR in cold climates is a bad idea. I'm in PA and it will get very cold here in the next couple of months. We recently had some mornings as cold as 15 degree with highs in the mid 20s. I averaged between 1.3 and 1.7 mi/kW over those days. The SR battery of 98kW charged to 90% is only gives 88kW usable, but you have to arrive home with some battery left. Let's say you manage to make it home with 10%. That means you had 78kW available to use. At 1.3 mi/kW you could drive 102 miles. On top of that, I don't feel comfortable cutting it that close. Draining the battery down to 10% in this scenario means you have 13 mile of range left. Not much wiggle room!

The heater consumes a lot of energy. Ford recommends using your heated seats and steering wheel rather than cranking up the resistance heater. Strike two if your truck doesn't have them .

I agree with a previous poster. A standard range truck is not going to hold value in the future.

Oh, and don't forget about battery degradation. The batteries is warranted for 8 years/100k miles and to not loose more than 30% of capacity in that time. If you are unlucky and lose 30%, your 98kW battery is now a 67kW battery.

You have a truck you love, keep it. The EV truck world is going to change massively in the next several years. Get the biggest battery available on the next generation Lightning.

I was planning on purchasing an XLT with no options when my reservation was called. Through a series of events I ended up getting a Lariat with a hand full of options including blue cruise from dealer stock while in transit. 500 miles in (on a small island) I can definitively say had I gotten the cheaper truck I would be disappointed and likely looking for a new vehicle. I sold a Jeep Gladiator when I purchased my Lightning, but have access to a dozen trucks through my work. If I had purchased a stripped down lightning I likely would have sold it and got a a different EV with my bells and whistles. I couldn’t imagine being happy having had them and then not.

I would try and get a similarly equipped lightning from dealer stock and let them keep your build.

I think this is what it will come down to as well. It appears the next gen ford truck Will be around in 2025. If I keep the XLt SR, hopefully it doesn’t lose most of its value by that time.

I think others have already touched on the issue of what you'll be able to get for your powerboost in terms of trade in value, but I definitely agree with all those who brought up the range issue.

Realistically, the standard range model is just the wrong spec for your use case. If you had an extended range on order, I'd say 100% pick it up, but as it stands now, I truly hesitate to recommend you go through with it as I would hate for you to have buyers remorse, because it doesn't fit your needs.

Honestly, as someone who bought a used lightning (super low mileage, was sold back to dealer by previous owner) there are deals to be made and since I bought my truck, I've had tons of dealers I was previously in contact with call me up hounding me to make a deal with them on brand new Lightnings that have come in and their original order makers having backed out. Almost all were extended range models.

So I'd say call around and do your research and see if you can find a dealer with an extended range model that someone else has backed out of and see what kinda deal you can get on it, with the market the way it is now, the vast majority of those ludicrous markups are also long gone.

But if not, then I'd keep this powerboost. It just seems to fit your needs better right now.

I’ve thought about this , but I’m not looking to pay those prices for an ER lariat. It’s a nice truck, I can afford it. It’s just getting a bit crazy at that point. 95% of my driving is in town less than 40 miles a day. I find it interesting everyone is so negative on the standard range?

A lot of the negativity for an SR vehicle comes from two perspectives. One, trips / towning. Two - cold weather impact.

My Mach-E displays a range of about 275 in the warm weather. In the dead of winter, that's about 180, a 35% drop. That's assuming I don't blast the heat... That's why.

My Mach-E displays a range of about 275 in the warm weather. In the dead of winter, that's about 180, a 35% drop. That's assuming I don't blast the heat... That's why.
To the OP's point, that doesn't mean that it won't still meet he needs of most users. Especially when you consider the price difference between the two options.

It would be similar to going around threads talking about how big of a mistake not getting the tow package is when the user may never tow anything.

Keep the PB, there are a lot of compromises when going full EV. My ICE F-150 was a 2.7 EB so it was a no brainer to get a Lightning. A PB though is a different story.

My XLT SR replaced my 2016 Ecoboost which got 24 mpg lifetime and never any trouble. With my driving almost all within 50 miles the SR is perfect and no time spent charging as it fully charges overnight with just a 30 amp 240V circuit. I also like the 12" screen better- it is more integrated- the SR is just fine but I would not want to take a 190 mile trip in the winter given that my experience with EA so far is 50% working- and by that I mean 50% when any of the four chargers worked! EA is terrible for reliability- it's almost like they don't know how to build reliable chargers. Time for EA to step up their game or go out of business- they give EV drivers a bad feeling with their poor record.
