I share your frustration. During my last simulated power outage. I got interrupted. At approximately minute 10 to 11 I heard the power kick on in the house. I am getting tired of simulating power outages. Mostly because I am sure that one of these times I will take a sledge hammer to the system. I have a ticket in with Ford. The Ford Rep said, "That there is a known issue. It would be nice if they gave us some visibility to the issue resolution. A big part of my decision to go with the Lightning was the home integration system. With the current state of things it would have been a better solution to go with a backup generator plug. The uncertainty is unsettling.
Why would ford release this product to the public knowing it doesn’t work??? So aggravating!

It also seems to be untrue with my truck, gaining a percent of battery level during the backup event last week.
Not saying you’re wrong, but I wouldn’t draw that conclusion based on seeing a 1% change in SoC on the display. A change of 0.1% could flip that digit. The battery warming as a result of using it for backup could do that.

I appreciate your responses. Given the fact that the inverter handles AC coupling and ford knows it I would be surprised if they have not dampened any negative impact. My initial feelings were that Sunrun just wanted to sell their solar package and just told folks it didn’t work with existing solar systems. But who knows. I will run it by ford for a response.

The Sunrun Field Website shows in off-grid mode, power only flows from the truck to the inverter. Click the left or right arrowheads/angle brackets when at the Sunrun Field Website link to see the on-grid power flow diagram vs. the off-grid mode. My installer suggested that, for unknown reasons, the truck backup functions more reliably if the Delta system also has photovoltaic input (it didn't sound like he was making his deduction from a large data set, though).

Given all the problem reports with officially supported HIS functions, your faith in unsupported functions having reliable safety protection is remarkable.

So I asked the Ford battery specialist in customer care the question about functionality and risk and the following was their answer:

“The Home Integration System Is not within our scope of work or expertise, you will need to reach out to SunRun directly and escalate it with them.”

Wow, guess their position now is hands off! That’s something special! Guess that proves your point.

Arrogance, If Tesla and Rivian can do it we can, we are the smartest corporation in the world. Use of too many subconractors, Lack of technical expertise. Desire to be first to have bi-directional capabilities. Inadequate failure analysis. Over reliance on Over the
Air updates as a fix.

Well, I’m hoping things get better rather than them leaving us hanging in the cold and not fully addressing these issues.
I’m thinking to just attach a 10 or 5 kw battery to the delta inverter just to guarantee that the system will work during a blackout.

I guess I’m fortunate to live in an area where there are not a lot of blackouts at this point. At this point in time the back up system is just a convenience to me not a necessity. But I will admit it was a very expensive convenience that in hindsight, I would not recommend anyone else to buy right now.

The great side of the situation is that I really love the Ford lightning truck. I’ve had an electric vehicle since first purchasing my Nissan leaf in 2012. I bought the standard range truck because I could not get the MSRP price below the $80,000 when I purchased the truck in March. If I would’ve just waited a few more months, I would’ve purchased the XLT with the extended range battery but we’re past that now. The bottom line is that the range on the standard battery is more than adequate for my needs and my backup needs if this thing ever is reliable.

The engineer/contractor that put in my HIS system was very excited to see the system work this week, and made a video which she is putting on YouTube to promote these by directional charging systems. Hopefully in the coming year or two there will be several viable options for this reality to become a reliable practice.

I will, however, keep pushing on Ford and their customer service staff to step up to the plate and their commitment to provide a reliable solution to the problems that we all face. They must be held accountable to the promises and functionality of their products.

How is your contractor lady making a video to promote this HIS system that doesn’t function? And why does @fordmoco keep selling these non functioning systems?

What kind of video is still up in the air until I see it but they put in a lot of battery backup systems. I would think they would not install another one of these until ford makes it workable.
As far as Ford continuing to sell them I agree that they should pause until they figure it out.
I think we are so few in numbers that there willing to use us as Guinea pigs.

So, I had a real power outage yesterday. I thought the issues with the Intelligent Backup were resolved. But, I got the preparing to transfer message. Spent 2 hours with Ford Support. No resolution. I was wondering if OP has gotten his issue resolved.
